  • Episode 40: How To Prevent Burnout In Your Career

    24/05/2018 Duración: 37min

Hey Career Girl Nation! Today’s episode is all about burnout. It’s a real thing. I’ve experienced burnout myself for a few months. I was falling asleep constantly, in a constant state of stress, and I just didn’t have it in me anymore. Being burned out in your career is serious. I got an overwhelming response to this issue. It resonated with numerous people, especially women. Many of us are starting our own businesses in addition to our 9-5 job, and building that entrepreneur life for ourselves. It’s easy to think you can do it all, all the time. I’m going to discuss how to identify, reverse, and prevent burnout in your career. Now, this doesn’t mean you are doing something wrong. It doesn’t mean you are in a toxic environment. Burnout just happens, and we may not always realize it. If you think you are burned out and want to do something about it, take a listen to episode 40! • Episode 39: Why Being Underpaid is Costing You More Than Just Money

    17/05/2018 Duración: 57min

In this episode, I get to interview a very special guest! I’ve known Mr. Nemo Ashong for close to two years, who is the founder of Empjoyment. He talks about his mission to have a truly inclusive and empowered world, and how we can value ourselves and know our full self-worth. All of us are priceless, but we live in a world where things cost money and we need to afford that lifestyle. We should be pushing to get top dollar to where we are. But first, we need to be able to demonstrate our value, and own who we are. I’m talking to a lot of women who are working to get the salaries they deserve, but there are systems at play where they don’t get paid at the same levels as men. A woman only makes 80 cents for every dollar that a man makes. For a black woman, they make even less. We discuss how you can start creating a space where you can speak freely, and open more doors. If you know you are worth more and you want your salary to grow, episode 39 is a must listen! P.S. If you enjoy this episode, please subscr

Even if you aren’t job searching right now, it’s still important to find those connections. There are also many unique challenges women face in the workplace, no matter what your skin type. Many of us face unconscious bias, myself included. We dig deeper into how LinkedIn can help you leverage, and battle that bias. If you want to own your career and find the right people that will navigate the way to your goals and dreams, episode 38 is a must listen! P.S. • Episode 37: Navigating a Career Change When You're Over 40

    21/03/2018 Duración: 30min

Today’s episode is a little different from the topics I normally discuss, specifically focusing on one demographic within corporate America. I want to laser my focus on this and talk about women who are over 40 or approaching 40, and navigating a career change. I’m getting a lot of women reaching out and asking questions about this. As you get older in the workplace, things can become more difficult. Being over 40 in corporate America isn’t easy. People start to make incorrect assumptions. They think about all the stereotypes and stigmas that come with you being older. How can you navigate through that and move forward? I’m going to break this down for you even more, and go through some strategies and tips you can use if you are in this age range trying to level up in your career. Even if you aren’t 40, or you know you will be in this demographic at some point, then episode 37 is just for you!

    14/03/2018 Duración: 33min

Hey Career Girl Nation! In this episode I sit down with Jamila Souffrant, a money coach and creator of the blog Journey To Launch and we discuss some ideas of how you can expand your earning potential and keep as many coins as possible. Many of us don’t realize the importance of budgeting. We don’t track what we spend, or how much we spend on items like groceries or transportation. You can be making a lot of money and still be broke, living paycheck to paycheck. But there are ways to use the tools and the money you have to make even more! Each of us has a customized journey when it comes to money and finances. It’s really important to start thinking about what your goals are, and making sure your actions are lining up with those goals. If you want to reach your financial goals and learn valuable tips on budgeting, episode 36 is a must listen!

  • Episode 35: 4 Steps You MUST Take To Get Recruiters Beating Down Your Door

    07/03/2018 Duración: 26min

Today’s episode is all about tapping into that hidden job market so recruiters will come knocking at your door. On a weekly basis, I have several recruiters from top notch companies reaching out to me. In three weeks one of my clients already had three competing job offers. You want recruiters beating down your doors begging for an interview, not the other way around. I use the same strategies in my business. I’m going to break down these strategies even more for you, starting with the power of LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the most impactful tool you can use for your networking, job search, and connecting with other recruiters and peers. If you want to get noticed and have all the opportunities come to you, take a listen to episode 35!

  • Episode 34: 5 Salary Limiting Mistakes Top Performers Make On Their Resume

    03/03/2018 Duración: 24min

I’ve been getting a ton of questions about resumes coming in recently. I did a Facebook live video about this topic over in my Career Success Circle group, and it was so well received that I wanted to reformat it to share with you guys. I want to spend some time breaking down my top tips to make sure that your resume reflects just how amazing you are.   I’ve talked to a lot of women who are top performers, but aren’t getting the job offers and interviews they want because there’s a disconnect with their resumes. The resumes don’t reflect how much value they bring to the table If you’re on the job hunt and not hearing back even though you know you are qualified, or if you’re about to start job searching, episode 34 is a must listen!

  • Episode 32: How to Play the Game at Work: Navigating Office Politics

    19/02/2018 Duración: 27min

Hey Career Girl Nation! I want to talk to you about "playing the game" at work. This topic came up after a member of my Career Success Circle community asked about navigating office politics. I hear from a lot of women in corporate America that they're not interested in playing the game, and I think that's because they believe it to be negative. When most people hear the term "playing the game", they think of it with a negative connotation. They think it means you have to be cutthroat and shady. But that's not the case! In today's episode, I'm breaking down exactly what it means to play the game, and the five strategies you need to successfully navigate it. If you don't know how to play the game, or don't know where to start, episode 32 is for you!

  • Episode 33: #SquadGoals: The Importance of Networking Across in Your Career

    18/02/2018 Duración: 24min

Hey Career Girl Nation!  Today I’m coming at you with another episode about networking. I want to talk about the importance of networking across. This is something that is often overlooked when it comes to networking. People are quick to network up--looking to people who are above them in their careers. But I want to talk about why you should be networking across. This episode is inspired by an interview that Issa Rae did. In this interview, she talked about networking with people on the same level as her. People who were ‘in the trenches’ at the same time, and how that helped elevate her career. This is networking across! In today’s episode, I’m talking about how you can strategically place yourself around people who are on the same level as you, and how to make this an important part of your networking plan. If you’re ready to get serious about networking, then you don’t want to miss episode 33!

  • Episode 31: 5 Things You MUST Do Before You Ask For Your Next Raise

    07/02/2018 Duración: 29min

One thing I'm very passionate about is helping women make more money. I'm all about breaking that glass ceiling, and earning the salary you' re worth. I see a lot of people struggling when it comes to asking for a raise. People don't seem to know the right steps to take, and aren't getting the outcomes they hope for. The biggest mistake I see people make is not being prepared for the big conversation. You can't just schedule a meeting with HR and tell them you want a raise--there is so much you should do before you even think about requesting that meeting! In today's episode, I'm sharing the five things you need to do so that when you go into that meeting with your manager, you're fully prepared. If you are trying to get a salary increase this year, then episode 31 is a must-listen for you! Check out the show notes at: yourcareergirl.com/blog/episode31

  • Episode 30: How to Build a Brand That Supports The Moves You Want to Make In Your Career

    01/02/2018 Duración: 28min

One of the differentiating characteristics of top performers and everyone else is the incessant drive to make an impact. Top performers need to make professional contributions that matter and are valued. For this reason, it's no surprise that they're almost always in some stage of career transition. Whether they're moving to a new role, taking on a new project, or implementing a new idea, top performers are either preparing for, in the process of, or just finishing up making some kind of move. The thing is, even though it's not uncommon for these types of opportunities to present themselves to top performers, there are times when no matter how hard you work or how well you do your job, you're not being tapped for the actual opportunities you want. In episode 30, I'm talking about the importance of building a brand that supports the kinds of moves you want to make in your career. If you're ready to be more strategic and intentional about choosing your next career opportunity, then this episode is a must li

  • Episode 29: 3 Salary Mindset Mistakes that Cost this Woman $1.5 Million...and How YOU can Avoid Them

    18/01/2018 Duración: 25min

This episode is a little different from other episodes, but I just had to dive into the controversy surrounding the new movie, All the Money in the World as it relates to the gender wage gap. If you're unaware, right on the heels of the controversy with actor Kevin Spacey being accused of sexual misconduct against several men, the producers decided to re-shoot the movie so they could essentially remove Kevin from all scenes. When asked to re-shoot the movie, Mark Wahlberg (man) said yes, as long as he was paid $1,500,000 to do so and Michelle Williams (woman) said yes, and that she'd even be willing to donate her salary to make it happen! As you might expect, once news of the pay discrepancy went public, some people were calling for Marky Mark's head on a platter and demanding he do something to right this wrong (he's since donated all the money he made from the re-shoot to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams' name). Listen in to episode 29 as I break down my thoughts on what happened an

  • Episode 27: 34 Things I've Learned in My Career

    08/01/2018 Duración: 56min

One of the luxuries of getting another year older, is the acquisition of more knowledge and wisdom - especially as it relates to my career. I've been through sooo much on my professional journey since I graduated from college back in 2005. From being the new kid on the block, to working in a toxic work environment, to being laid off, to building my career back up again, to becoming the most senior black woman at my company. Let me tell you, if I could tell 21 year old Dorianne the things that I know now, I could have done so many things differently and avoid some of the drama. When they say "hindsight is 20/20", they're not lying. In this episode, I break down the 34 things I've learned over the years in my career. Yup, that's one lesson for every year of life. • Episode 26: How to Improve Your Professional Skills Without Going Broke

    04/01/2018 Duración: 27min

This week's podcast episode was inspired by a question I received from one of the Career Success Circle members, April. She asked: "How can I focus on improving my skills in my career, without going into debt?" I thought this was an amazing question. As a high achieving and ambitious woman, you may be at a point in your career where you're looking to pivot. Maybe you're feeling stuck and like you want to make a switch, or you want to expand on your skill set, but 1) you're not sure where to start and/or 2) you're not sure where the coins are going to come from to make it happen. I've spoken to many women over the years who share these sentiments and I'm a firm believer in the fact that money should never hinder you from going after personal and professional development opportunities. Listen in to episode 26 as I break down my four tips for learning new skills and increasing your knowledge base - without breaking the bank! If you've got BIG plans for your career this year, this episode is especially for

  • Episode 24: Dealing With Sexual Harassment at Work

    20/12/2017 Duración: 39min

Sexual harassment in the U.S. has ALWAYS been a problem. And with the recent rise of the #metoo movement, led by Tarana Burke, our problem is now all over these internet streets for the world to see. Yup, that's right. We've been hearing pretty much on a daily basis just how icky men have been to the women they work with. Whether it's by forceably groping or kissing them, making inappropriate comments, or flat out rape. Did you know that over 17 million women have reported sexual assault since 1998? It's crazy, y'all.
