  For the past 9 years CUE Center for Missing Persons has sponsored a National Conference for the benefit of educating those who work with families of the missing, bringing awareness to the vast numbers of missing persons, and, most importantly, providing a place for families to meet and share together in one of the worst tragedies of life. On October 17, 2009 the Harrington’s lives were forever changed when their beautiful daughter, Morgan, came up missing from a Metallica concert she attended in Charlottesville, VA.  The country took notice, assistance poured in from all over, but her lifeless remains were not found until January, 26, 2010 in a remote field in Albemarle County, VA on Anchorage Farm.  Morgan was taken from this world just as she was becoming a woman recognizing her potential.   Individuals with disabilities, Native American women, immigrants, LGBT individuals, and other members of marginalized communities face high rates of sexual violence. This increased violence can be partially attributed to society’s attitudes about these communities and to laws and policies that prevent them from accessing justice. Anna Doroghazi, the Director of Public Policy and Communication at Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services, will talk about why certain communities are more likely to experience abuse and what efforts are currently underway to make this abuse less likely.
