In the episode 1 of what will be a multi-part series, Justin dives into the life and times of American socialist, activist, trade unionist, and presidential candidate Eugene V. Debs. The following topics are covered:   From the Panic of 1873, which sent Debs looking for work elsewhere. He joins The Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and gets his first taste of labor organizing. To The Dynamite and Legitimate Warfare essay (1885) and the political failures which led to Debs shift in perspective that would eventually brings him to socialism.

I set out to write the third and final episode of the series, but ended up fixated on this idea of the alt-right brain and how these people come to hold beliefs that allow them to commit such horrific acts of violence. As I finished editing, I opened my phone to the news another apparent white nationalist had murdered at least 12 people in El Paso Texas.
