The 1970s were filled with social upheaval and racial tension in America. On many occasions, it boiled over into violence. New Haven, Connecticut was the scene of violent turmoil in the wake of the city's Urban Renewal Project, which displaced minority communities from neighborhoods they had lived in for generations. Author and producer Dion Baia grew up in New Haven and has written a book called Blood in the Streets, a fictional account of the violence and social unrest of that era. His book follows veteran homicide detective Frank Suchy as he learns to cope with past and present traumas in order to track down the murderer of his best friend's child. Baia will join me to discuss the book and his real-life experiences growing up just a few short years after New Haven earned the title "Gun Wavin' New Haven".
