The Trump administration has indicated that it has no problems with allowing states to impose work requirements in Medicaid, a major policy shift in the health program for low-income people. Federal officials said they would support state efforts to require able-bodied adults to engage in work or other "community engagement activities" as a condition of eligibility for Medicaid. Meanwhile, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that New York will continue to provide some illegal immigrant Dreamers with access to government-run Medicaid insurance no matter what happens in Washington. State taxpayers will bear all costs for the coverage because federal law prohibits federal taxpayers from paying for illegal immigrants.
