João Carlos Jarochinski Silva is Professor at Universidade Federal de Roraima (UFRR) in a joint appointment at the Faculty of International Relations and the Sociedade e Fronteiras (Society and Borders) Postgraduate Programme. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Núcleo de Estudos de População Elza Berquó (NEPO/Unicamp), and holds a PhD in Social Sciences (International Relations) from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC/SP), and a Masters in International Law from Universidade Católica de Santos (UniSantos). He was a visiting researcher at The Center for Latin American & Latino Studies (CLALS) of American University in Washington, D.C. He has worked with migration and refuge issues since his Master’s degree and is actively involved in the assistance and research of the Venezuelans in Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil.Brazil is going through challenging times.
