Housing Difficulties For The Younger Generation

Informações:

Sinopsis

On Thursday's Monring Focus Alan Morrissey was joined by Mike Taylor, Director of Policy FASD and Lucy Killackey, Clare Macra Member. Almost nine in 10 18-to-34 year-olds know someone who is still living at home because they can’t afford to buy their own home. A new survey also shows a staggering number of this age cohort know someone who is planning to emigrate because of the housing crisis. Dubliners were most likely to know someone who has left Ireland due to housing affordability, at 45 per cent - while those living in Munster were least likely, at 33 per cent. This begs the question: how can the younger generation start a family, if they can’t move out of their parents’ home and build their future elsewhere? And, given the situation, will that elsewhere be abroad, where it could be easier to find a home of their own? Earlier, Alan spoke with Fianna Fáil Councillor Rachel Hartigan.
