The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is reporting record levels of demand as households face rising energy, food and housing costs AND the withdrawal of temporary cost-of-living supports. The society last year received requests for help exceeding 260,000 for the first time. Food remains the biggest driver of need. Food-related requests were the largest category, with SVP receiving 112,772 requests for food assistance in 2025, up 8,548 on 2024. For four months of the year, food requests exceeded 10,000 per month. Denis Carty was speaking with Clare FM's Daragh Dolan on Friday's Morning Focus.
