Sinopsis
The Government is being accused of an "abandonment by default" of low-lying parts of East Clare. Maghera Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes has tabled a motion at this week's meeting of Killaloe Municipal District proposing the establishment of a stakeholders' group with the aim of tackling ongoing flooding in the catchment area of the River Graney. In response, Clare County Council's environmental team has contacted the Local Authority Waters Programme which has said it "would not be supportive of drainage of the Graney catchment" as this would contravene key objectives of the EU Water Framework Directive. Councillor Hayes believes affected landowners should be compensated.
