She has won awards for teaching and writing, and she is the recipient of the 2014 San Francisco Fashion Award for Best Makeup Artist. After earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, she became a social worker, a professional freelance makeup artist, and, in 2016, a registered yoga teacher. Kenya found that her jobs allowed her the opportunity to work with women in an intimate way.
