On this Fourth Sunday of Advent we hear the declaration of the angelic choir that the birth of Jesus Christ has brought peace “on earth among men with whom He is pleased.” But what does this mean? What is this peace? How is it obtained? These actually form the fundamental questions of Christmas! The core of our celebration comes not from the fact that a babe was born in Bethlehem, but in the certainty that that Baby is Jesus Christ the Lord, the bringer of forgiveness, peace, and eternal life.
