David does evil in the sight of the LORD by committing adultery with Bathsheba and having her husband Uriah killed in battle. In essence, David breaks most of the Ten Commandments and thinks he got away with the sin. In 2 Samuel 12, Nathan the Prophet rebukes David with a parable. In anguish over his grievous sin, David pens Psalm 51 which shows us four stages of confession and repentance.
