God reveals Himself in the Bible as the God who heals His people, and we can rest assured knowing it is God's will to heal. In this sermon we explore the scriptures, observe the healing ministry of Jesus and see why He healed people, and also why God at times chooses not to heal for His good purposes. The believer in Jesus can rejoice ultimately God's people will one day all be completely healed and glorified, and we ought to bless Him today for His grace to us. Synopsis: The lives of Jacob and Joseph come to an end in this last chapter of the book of Genesis. In the face of death they both expressed confidence in God's faithfulness to give them the land He promised them in due time. Better than returning to a location or place in time those who fear the LORD ought to return to Him, believing He will bring good out of what was meant by others for evil. As Jacob reached the end of his life, he summoned his sons to his bedside and blessed each one of them. His divinely inspired discourse contains rebuke, revelation and encouragement everyone can benefit from as we turn our eyes to Jesus and face the reality of being gathered to our people. As he reached the end of his days on earth, Israel adopted Manasseh and Ephraim as his own sons, conferring upon Joseph a double portion. By faith in almighty God Israel blessed the younger before the older, a picture of how God goes beyond what we could ever ask or think. In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence, for God will always keep his promises without fail. By the grace of God, Joseph provided for the people of Egypt and Israel with his household for the duration of the famine. They all desired to find favour in the eyes of Joseph, and their service and requests hint at the abundant life and relationship on offer by God for all who receive the Gospel of grace. We need God's grace, and we should also desire to find it. Synopsis: Jacob and his whole household travelled to Egypt and were presented before Pharaoh. Joseph coached his brothers in a hope for success, yet by faith in God who promised his whole family was provided for. In his advanced age Jacob blessed Pharaoh by His God Who promised to bless Jacob and made him a blessing. Synopsis: Luke writes his gospel account to show Jesus' humanity. As Jesus' ministry is starting to head to Jerusalem for his destiny at Calvary, he starts to tell of and reinforce the importance of His death and how the disciples have to follow as well. Synopsis: After Jacob was convinced Joseph was alive and invited him to go to Egypt, Jacob sought the LORD in Beersheba and was directed by God to go without fear. Jacob brought all his family and possessions to Egypt and reunited with his beloved son. One life makes a huge difference in the lives of others, and by faith in Jesus we can die and live happy knowing our names are written in His Book of Life. Synopsis: After patient testing, Joseph finally revealed his true identity to his shocked brothers. They had sold him into slavery, yet God sent him to save many people alive--including them. Jacob pinned his hopes on Benjamin returning home and unexpectedly would pack up to meet Joseph he thought was dead. God's people who sow in tears will reap in joy. Synopsis: During his brother's second visit to Egypt, Joseph enacted his final test of his brothers by framing Benjamin for the theft of his silver cup. With care and compassion, Judah drew near to Joseph to plead for the freedom of Benjamin and asked to be made a slave in his place. Judah didn't realise the governor was for him, yet we draw near to God knowing He is for us because our lives are bound up in the life of Jesus. Synopsis: Jacob procrastinated sending all his sons to Egypt to buy food and thus restrained good God intended to do for him and his household through Joseph's rule. Synopsis: The sons of Jacob returned to their father after they bought grain from Egypt--only to find their money was restored in their sacks of grain. Though Jacob feared God, he was afraid and only considered risks of what he stood to lose rather than rest in the God who promised to make of him a great nation and provided for all his needs. The things that seem against Christians are actually for us because God is able to make them work together for good. Synopsis: In the life of Joseph and countless others, God allowed affliction with purposeful intent to redeem bad situations for good. When his brothers came seeking food, Joseph recognised them and put them to the test by imprisoning them three days. Their troubled conscience showed they could not redeem themselves, but bless the LORD for the redemption possible to all through faith in Jesus today. Synopsis: God brought Joseph out of prison and into Pharaoh's palace as second ruler in all Egypt. In knowing and trusting God, Joseph was guided in wisdom to prepare during years of plenty for a prolonged severe famine. Knowing God and that He has spoken, Christians are called to hear the word of God in truth by taking it to heart and doing whatever He says. Synopsis: Pharaoh had two troubling dreams all the magicians and dream experts in Egypt were unable to interpret. After he was recommended by the chief butler, Joseph was brought before Pharaoh and gave him an answer of peace from God--though the king's request was beyond his own ability. Joseph had learned to trust and rely upon the almighty God Who is our peace, a good example for all to follow. Synopsis: On Resurrection Sunday Jesus revealed Himself to His disciples and breathed new life into them by the Holy Spirit. Though Jesus ascended up into heaven, having been seen by many, His disciples were empowered to be His witnesses. Synopsis: God came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ and looked forward to all He would accomplish in His exodus from the world in death. Synopsis: After Joseph was unfairly imprisoned, he served in prison without forgetting the God who was with him. When the chief butler and baker were troubled by dreams, Joseph showed interpretations belong to God when his words came to pass. Joseph asked to be remembered but was forgotten, and God's people ought always remember Him. After Joseph was sold as a slave, he was a successful and prosperous slave in Potiphar's house because the LORD was with him. He was harassed and tempted by Potiphar's wife, yet Joseph refused to do great wickedness before God. The LORD showed mercy and favour to Joseph when he was unjustly imprisoned, yet found prosperity and rest because God was with him. Synopsis: This chapter takes a brief detour from the life of Joseph to reveal circumstances from the life of Judah and his daughter-in-law Tamar only God could redeem. Bible passages that seem most repugnant can be most relevant because we are all sinners in need of God's gracious intervention, salvation and redemption. It is a small thing to point out the faults of others, but the wise will follow God's prompting to confess and forsake their own sin.
