God directed Jeremiah to use a linen sash to provide an illustration of what would happen to His people because they departed from Him. They were incapable of changing themselves for the better or doing good, and God is willing to go to great lengths to warn and save sinners. The question remained: would their unwillingness to change continue? Though Jeremiah trusted God and knew He was righteous, he questioned His judgments. God sent Jeremiah to Jerusalem to see if he could find one man who did justly and sought the truth, but among the rich and poor there was not one found. To people who forsook the LORD and justified themselves, God remembered them and how in early days they once used to seek Him. In response to Ruth's request, Boaz went to the gate to find the nearest kinsman to organise the purchase of Naomi's land as well as Ruth's redemption. When the closest kinsman was unable to redeem, Boaz was glad and willing to acquire Ruth as wife. Through them God provided Naomi a son, a beautiful illustration of God's grace extended to all by the Gospel. With permission from Naomi, Ruth sought to glean in the field where she found favour and happened to go into the field of Boaz. What seemed by chance was orchestrated by the LORD to show Himself faithful to the living and the dead.
