Synopsis: Before Jeremiah was conceived or born, God knew and ordained him to be a prophet to the nations. In response to Ruth's request, Boaz went to the gate to find the nearest kinsman to organise the purchase of Naomi's land as well as Ruth's redemption. When the closest kinsman was unable to redeem, Boaz was glad and willing to acquire Ruth as wife. Through them God provided Naomi a son, a beautiful illustration of God's grace extended to all by the Gospel. Synopsis: In submission to her mother-in-law, Ruth went to the threshing floor to communicate her desire for Boaz to perform the duty of a near kinsman. With permission from Naomi, Ruth sought to glean in the field where she found favour and happened to go into the field of Boaz. Synopsis: The period of the Judges began with everyone doing what was right in their own eyes without a king, and the book concludes in the same way. After Samson was made weak as other men, he was hauled before the Philistines rulers and people for their amusement in the temple of Dagon. Though he lacked eyes to see, by faith he looked to the God of Israel for strength who answered his prayer and brought down the temple of Dagon upon the Philistines and himself. Jephthah sought a diplomatic solution to the Ammonite invasion, but the king of the Ammonites refused to listen. After Jephthah made a vow to the LORD, God helped him to rout the Ammonites and return home in peace.
