Much to the chagrin of some of our Facebook Live fans, we start with sports today as the Patriots selected the guy they coveted, Alabama Quarterback Mac Jones in the first round of the NFL Draft last night. Governor Baker detailed some of the aches and pains he felt after receiving his second dose of the Phizer vaccine, something a few of our Morning Edition team members may experience in the next couple of days. Lots of potential outdoor activities on tap for the weekend with the outdoor mask mandate expiring today, get out there and enjoy it (responsibly of course)… and thanks for making GBH part of your work week.

President Biden held his first address in front of a joint session of Congress last night and it began with a moment of historic significance. Vaccination locations across the state are starting to see lower demand, leading to some walk-in availability at many locations. Meanwhile our small crew of four is close to being fully vaccinated, and we can’t decide how we want to get together to celebrate. Good Tuesday morning, thanks for starting your day with Joe Mathieu and the GBH Morning Edition team. A rare moon took over the sky last night, we hope you got the chance to take it all in. After many predictions of a stock market crash if Joe Biden won the election, the reality is Biden’s first 100 days saw the largest period of growth for the indexes since Dwight D. Eisenhower held office. We’re expecting President Biden to issue new guidance concerning masks at some point today, and we wonder if Governor Baker will follow it up with some rules specific for Massachusetts. For a second straight Patriot’s Day some Boston traditions are on hold… today would normally begin with a Revolutionary Reenactment on Lexington and Concord, and continue with the Boston Marathon, but alas those plans are once again postponed for the pandemic. At least the Red Sox marathon matinee will still begin at 11AM as scheduled… and who doesn’t love morning baseball? If you’re north or west of Boston, you may have woken up with some snow falling - not much is sticking, and it will be gone in a flash, but it could make for a challenging commute. B’s and C’s both got wins last night, but the Sox finally had their long win streak snapped. There’s been a lot of local buzz for the Netflix documentary about the Gardner art heist, but one woman in particular has gone viral and gotten our attention. On the heels of some amazing weather yesterday, we’re hunkering down for some Spring showers over the next few days, but at least our lawns and Spring gardens will appreciate it. And if you’re among the many that live beyond Metrowest, you might even see some April snow. The Red Sox are now surprising more than just the fans in New England, right now they’re the hottest team in baseball… what a difference a year makes. Spotty weather is confusing us today as some saw rain out there, some saw none at all, but our Facebook family reports scattered showers throughout the area this morning. Crypto-currency is the wave of the future, but we still have trouble understanding it. The grace period for expired vehicle inspections has once again been extended amidst a malware attack for the RMV. And Joe is experiencing some commute related stress lately, stemming mostly from aggressive tractor trailers, and wonders if a big old pick-up truck might help. Pretty amazing development here as less than a week ago a few of us were feeling overwhelmed by the lack of available appointments. Good Friday morning, we made it through the work week - for GBH’s Joe Mathieu that work week happened to be only two days long, but we’re not jealous or anything. Now that Brendan has moved over to the night shift, our Facebook friends are trying to come up with a replacement nickname for our remaining crew, but “The Three Stooges” isn’t quite the fit we were looking for. Lots of vaccine news this morning, as New Englanders continue to get their jabs. Plus the weather over the next two days promises to be epic before the rain moves in on Sunday, so plan your (safe) outdoor activities accordingly.
