The International Journal of Radiation Oncology-Biology-Physics (the Red Journal) publishes the latest clinical research related to radiation oncology, radiation biology, medical physics, education, and health policy. The overarching mission of Practical Radiation Oncology is to improve the quality of radiation oncology practice through publication of official ASTRO guidelines and white papers, discussion and illustration of new techniques, evaluation of current practices, and publication of case reports. The study investigates prior authorization denial rates and associated treatment delays for proton beam therapy. The study also addresses possible predictors for denial and if denials aligned with the ASTRO model policy for proton beam therapy. Dr. Gupta provides perspective on how prior authorization affects all radiation therapy and how radiation oncologists can get involved individually and through ASTRO.
