In this episode, Brett and Jason examine the nature of prayer as the fulfillment of the Second Commandment by doing a Bible study on 1 Timothy 2:1-8.  Prayer is closely tied to our responsibility as truth-tellers under the Second Commandment because it is the proper use of God’s name.

In this episode, Brett and Jason look at the Biblical account of Ananias and Sapphira from Acts 5:1-11 through the lens of the Second Commandment.  In this study, they discuss how the Second Commandment prohibits blasphemy.  Christians are to be truth-tellers, pointing out the ugliness and reality of sin and applying the glorious promises of the Gospel.  The Lutheran Confessions push us to Scripture which pushes us to Christ.

In this episode, Brett and Jason take up the Second Commandment according to Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms.  They discuss the difference between the Second Commandment in the Lutheran and Reformed traditions and explore how blasphemy and prayer are related to God’s instructions to us in the Second Commandment.

In this episode, Brett and Jason discuss how the Nicene Creed addresses the anti-Trinitarian heresy of Arianism.  The Nicene Creed is the first confession produced by the Church after Christianity had been normalized and accepted in the Roman Empire thanks to Constantine.  In it, we have a statement for orthodox theology rather than a statement against heresy.  One key takeaway is that Jesus is not a created being (as Arius would have claimed), but rather all things are created through and by Jesus.

In this episode, Brett and Jason discuss how the Apostles’ Creed addresses the errors of Gnosticism.  The Apostles’ Creed is the most succinct summary of the faith we have, and each article of the creed uniquely addresses the heresies committed by Gnosticism.
