To be grateful is good, but to actually practice gratitude is so much more than that. By practicing gratitude, you are choosing to follow Jesus, even when you don't understand. Did you know that Jesus talked about money more than almost any other topic in the New Testament? Despite the anxiety that it gives most of us, we have to be open to talking about the subject, because, the reality is, where our money goes often points to where our heart is at. In Luke 16:13-14 (NLT), Jesus says "No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other". If money is our only concern, and we don't trust God with our money, then where is our heart truly at? Learn the spiritual practice of listening: being fully attentive with the intent of understanding. Listening is a matter of life and death when it comes to relationships. There is no life with God apart from listening. Our current culture is noisy with lots of talking. Truth can be difficult to find in a culture that is oblivious to what is happening around them. We so often miss the needs of those around us. Sometimes, we even miss important things about ourselves. But more often than not, we miss the truth of what God is doing in our lives.1 Corinthians 13:6 NIV says this, "Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.". Trusting God is the cornerstone to the Christian faith, but when it comes to finances & tithing, it can be tough.In Matthew 14, Jesus and His disciples find themselves at an impasse. With tens of thousands of people wanting to hear Jesus' words, they need to be fed. Jesus then takes some bread and fish from a young boy and multiplies it, feeding everyone-- with extra to spare. The secret is God can turn a little into a lot. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the weight of shame? Whether it’s shame that has been forced on to you by others, or you are wrestling with it internally, there’s a way for you to be free of that burden. In Mark 14:33-34, Jesus feels overwhelmed by the weight of the pain He’s feeling, stating that His soul was “overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death”. Rather than hiding this, He asked three of His disciples to keep watch for Him– to look out for Him. Jesus was deeply vulnerable with those that He trusted in a moment of great burden.
