This week is for the ladies. Virgins and whores, final girls and damsels in distress. Monsters and monster-hunters. Seductresses and victims. Everything in between. The female of the species is not often serviced well by the genre, but this week we present reviews of eight films of varying quality that are centered around women. First, Chris joins Desmond to discuss the intense and powerful Martha Marcy May Marlene starring the amazing Elizabeth Olsen. Devil Dinosaur Jr. sidles up to chat up Girls Against Boys. Dread Media hits the big 4-0-0! For 400 weeks in a row we have provided you an hour (or so) of audio entertainment covering the horror and dark fantastique across all media, and this week is no different. In fact, all the way back in episode 100 we paid tribute to the man of many media himself: Clive Barker. Since then, a lot has happened in the world of Clive Barker, and Desmond and friends are here to fill you in on the world of film, literature, and comics as they relate to Clive Barker. First, Desmond and Darryll get a look at the long-anticipated Nightbreed: The Director's Cut, a film once considered lost forever. Then, Devil Dinosaur Jr. delivers an epic-length Stay Scary based on the writing work that Clive Barker has done for television, namely: "Haeckel's Tale" and "Valerie on the Stairs" from Masters of Horror, and "The Yattering and Jack" from Tales from the Darkside. Episode 400 is coming next week, so we needed to clean some of the piles of reviews we have sitting around in Dread Media Global Headquarters. First up, Duane and Desmond take a look at the Canadian horror comedy Wolfcop. Then Desmond settles in for a barrage of reviews from across all media. Sequels aren't always the best measure of cinematic quality. It's a Dread Media Presents debut as MCs and obscure rap aficionados Reece Heinen and Alex Hurt dedicate an entire podcast to going deep on reviews of a single song in the hip hop subgenre of horrorcore.
