Episode 56: Death Wish Series (Finale) DEATH WISH V: THE FACE OF DEATH
15/02/2017 Duración: 01h24minIt's the series finale of the Death Wish Series! We're talking Death Wish V: The Face of Death, a sad conclusion to the franchise that finds Charles Bronson looking old, feeble, and defeated. The film itself is a mess, probably the worst of the series with lackluster action sequences and some really stupid ideas like a remote control soccer ball and an Irish mafioso with Italian henchmen. Still, we have fun talking about the ridiculous scenarios and Sam Adams' new recipe for Rebel IPA. Episode 55: Death Wish Series (4) DEATH WISH 4: THE CRACKDOWN
30/01/2017 Duración: 01h20minIn the fourth installment of our Death Wish Series, we take on the incredibly 80s-set Death Wish 4: The Crackdown - if the cocaine doesn't define it, then the roller rinks and arcades will. This is, per Ryne, a "stupid" film, but it's easy to see why it's also quite enjoyable: ridiculous action scenes make up about 70% of the film and it has the feel of a video game where Paul Kersey continually gets mission objectives from his boss. We also talk about Genesee's Bock Beer, the use of rape within the Death Wish series, the real death wish being a relationship with Paul Kersey, and Danny Trejo's appearance in the film! Approximate timeline 0:00-16:00 Introduction 16:00 - 23:00 Beer talk 23:00-end Death Wish 4: The Crackdown Remember to subscribe to us on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/blood-and-black-rum-podcast/id1017126160?mt=2 And help us by donating to our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/bloodandblackrumpodcast --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Supp

Episode 54: Death Wish Series (3) DEATH WISH 3
24/01/2017 Duración: 01h24minIn this episode, we continue our Death Wish series with Death Wish 3. This sequel takes things even less seriously than before, to the point where we question if this is meant to be a tongue-in-cheek action film. We discuss the multiple car explosions, the main villain's ridiculous hair, the alt-right stance on vigilantism, and Brown's Chasing Suns Double IPA! Episode 53: Death Wish Series (2) DEATH WISH II
16/01/2017 Duración: 01h28minBlood and Black Rum Podcast continues their Death Wish Series with Death Wish II, a film that basically reboots the premise of the original. We talk about the lack of direction in this sequel, the off-kilter tone and music score, and the poor thematic representation of vigilantism. We also cover Brown's Brewery beer and more! Episode 52: Death Wish Series (1) DEATH WISH
12/01/2017 Duración: 01h34minIt's the beginning of our DEATH WISH series, and this marks a new twist on Blood and Black Rum Podcast - Martin leads this episode, and the subsequent episodes in the series! We tackle Death Wish, a film starring Charles Bronson as a vigilante against crime in NYC after his wife is murdered and his daughter raped by thugs (including one of our favorites, Jeff Goldblum). We talk about the nature of the film's premise - of fighting back with gunplay - and also discuss the political and societal implications of the film, noting how little society has changed forty-three years after the film's release. Intro - 0:00-15:00 Beer talk - featuring Sierra Nevada's Sidecar Orange Pale Ale and Peach IPA - 15:00-30:00 Film talk: 30:00-end Remember to subscribe on iTunes and support our friends at Ace Podcast Network. Episode 51: 2016 Year in Review/BUBBA HO-TEP
05/01/2017 Duración: 01h32minIn this dual episode, we take a look back at 2016 to discuss some of our episodes as well as the new films that we covered. You can find this discussion in part 1 of the podcast, from 0:00-35:00. In the interlude, we talk about the beer we're drinking on the podcast - this time, it's Sam Adams' new Hopscape, a wheat pale ale that tastes fairly similar to their Rebel IPA. Skip to 35:04-44:00 for that. In part 2, we discuss the film in question: Don Coscarelli's Bubba Ho-Tep, a film about Elvis, aging, and death. While the film has some great themes, both Martin and Ryne found it a bit slow. Check out this discussion from 44:02 to the end of the show. Episode 50: Festivus Series (Finale) DIE HARD
29/12/2016 Duración: 01h27minOur final Festivus Series episode was a secret, but now it's revealed - we're doing Die Hard, the greatest Christmas movie ever. In this episode, we give reasons why this technically is a Christmas movie, talk about how the film has held up over time, discuss our favorite Bruce Willis movies, drink some New Belgium beer, and get into a tete a tete over the film's lengthy exposition scenes. Oh yeah, we also rank Family Matters and Full House, offering Netflix a new original series: Familier Matters. Episode 49: Festivus Series (3) NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION
21/12/2016 Duración: 01h33minFinally we get to finish our original Vacation series along with continuing our Festivus Series for the holidays. We started to cover all of the Vacation films way back at the beginning of our podcast, and now we end with National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It's probably Ryne's favorite holiday film of all time, and it's up there for Martin as well. We talk our favorite scenes, the relatable element that makes this Vacation film stand out, and we sip on Rogue's Santa's Private Reserve Ale as well as a new rye whiskey from Springbrook. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/support

Episode 48: Festivus Series (2) SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT PART 2
15/12/2016 Duración: 01h30minOur Festivus Series continues with a return to the Silent Night, Deadly Night Franchise: Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2. The film is basically a recap of the original with some new footage thrown in involving Billy's brother Ricky, and in general terms no one would ever think this is a good film. But from a comical perspective, Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 is pure genius, a hilariously bad horror movie that features Eric Freeman in a defining roll. We also talk about Dread Central's new move to Patreon, Scream Factory's Black Christmas fiasco, and our podcast joining the Ace Podcast Network! Note: Around 33 minutes we talk about a recap scene from Silent Night, Deadly Night where we refer to Billy's mother as Linnea Quigley. That was a mistake - I had Linnea on the mind - and we actually mean Tara Buckman. Sorry about that! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/support

Episode 47: Festivus Series (1) KRAMPUS
07/12/2016 Duración: 01h21minThe first episode of our holiday Festivus Series is Krampus, Michael Dougherty's 2015 horror film featuring the evil shadow of St. Nicholas. On the 'cast we discuss Adam Scott's sweaters, Old Milwaukee beer, Black Christmas' domination of the Christmas horror genre, and even get into Dougherty's other film Trick 'r Treat a little bit! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/support

Episode 46: Wherein We Get Mystical With DOCTOR STRANGE
24/11/2016 Duración: 01h29minWe continue our tradition of seeing every new superhero film with Doctor Strange, which is a very good film that unfortunately suffers from some distinct flaws - ones that have become more prevalent as Marvel's superhero origin stories continue. We talk about Cumberbatch, the stereotypical origin plotting, the graphics, and the controversy over the Ancient One's race! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/support

Episode 45: Wherein We Get Topical and Political with IDIOCRACY
16/11/2016 Duración: 01h32minNow that we're done with our Halloween Series, we thought we'd take the podcast in a different direction: dumb comedy. And what's more topical than Idiocracy, the 2006 Mike Judge film that blatantly mocks the increasing stupidity of humanity and makes some scarily accurate predictions about our future. So this episode gets kind of political; it also attempts to see both the social and political commentary within the film. But since we're also irreverent, we talk about Sierra Nevada's winter 12-pack too. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/support

Episode 44: Halloween Series (Finale) SAW 3D
10/11/2016 Duración: 01h31minOur final episode of the Halloween Series is here - only two weeks after Halloween ended! In this look at Saw 3D/Saw VII/Saw: The Final Chapter and anything else you want to call it, we talk about just how messy this franchise has gotten in its final trilogy. Saw 3D is the pinnacle of this messiness, the film that loses all connection to what the original Saw began. We also briefly touch on the horrors of the American election (so if you're not a Libtard like us, you may want to skip that and/or our entire podcast) and drink a lot - focusing on Woodchuck and Angry Orchard ciders. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/support

Episode 43: Halloween Series (6) SAW VI
03/11/2016 Duración: 01h34minOur penultimate episode of the Halloween Series airs a couple days after Halloween, but that doesn't mean we can't keep the celebration going. We're talking SAW VI, the next-to-last entry in the series! We didn't like it all that much, because the plots get messier, the flashbacks get more abundant, and the traps become less about the players and more about how Jigsaw was denied something from them. We're also talking Brooklyn Octoberfest, Saranac, and more! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/support

Episode 42: Halloween Series (5) SAW V
27/10/2016 Duración: 01h27minOur fifth episode in the Halloween Series tackles Saw V, which we found to be a rather unnecessary installment of the franchise. Martin even called it a complete waste of time, ranking it a 4 out of 10 and labeling it the worst of the Saw films so far. Besides that stinker of a film, we also talk about The Walking Dead's new season premiere, take a quick look at Ash vs Evil Dead's second season, and talk about Guinness' new Rye Pale Ale. Episode 41: Halloween Series (4) SAW IV
20/10/2016 Duración: 01h38minOur fourth episode of the Halloween series focuses on SAW IV, wherein we deal with the first three films in the series and then compare this one to them. We also talk about the traps, the new villain, and how well this film ties in its game to Saw III. Tune in and find out what we thought of Saw IV! There's also a quick rundown of Ryne's trip to Halloween Horror Nights. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/support

Episode 40: Halloween Series (3) SAW III
06/10/2016 Duración: 01h26minOur third installment of the Halloween Series covers Saw III. We've now made it through a trilogy of Saw films, and we discuss if we're getting fatigued with torture porn yet. We also talk about how the two separate games within this film don't work as well as one of them individually - plus, we get into the morality of Jeff's decisions to let some people die. Episode 39: Halloween Series (2) SAW II
28/09/2016 Duración: 01h35minOur second episode in the Halloween Series features Saw II as we continue our journey through the Saw franchise. We talk Halloween releasing schedules, Victory Festbier, how the traps get more advanced and less fair, and how Donnie Wahlberg should have been paired with Stephen Baldwin in this sequel. Episode 38: Halloween Series (1) SAW
21/09/2016 Duración: 01h16minOur Halloween Series this year takes on all seven of the Saw films, and we start in chronological order with Saw. This was the first in this torture porn genre and arguably the best, with the most manageable plot that focused less on gore than twisty puzzles. However, there are still a lot of problems stylistically and rudimentarily, and we definitely point those out. It's Martin's first time watching a Saw film! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bloodandblackrum/support

Episode 37: Wherein TENEBRAE Corrupts Us
14/09/2016 Duración: 01h26minTenebrae is a highly renowned giallo film, recently released on a single-disc Blu-Ray by Synapse Films. Dario Argento's direction is fantastic in this whodunnit about a novelist targeted by a sadistic killer using his latest novel as inspiration, and many themes are prominent throughout this slow burn that uses death as an art form. We talk about giallo in general first, then dive into Tenebrae itself - its metacommentary, its ideas about human corruption and depravity, and of course the non-Goblin soundtrack.
