The CAF Private who was recommended for Canada's highest military honour, the Canadian Victoria Cross, for his valour in a battle against Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan in 2006. Lt. General Omer Lavoie, the Command Officer on the battlefield that day was a guest with us and described Pvt. Larochelle's valour in detail. General Rick Hillier, former Chief of the Defence Staff also appeared on our program to support the CDN VC for Jess Larochelle, but still there was military and political refusal. Pvt. Larochelle was critically wounded yet kept fighting to cover his fellow CAF soldiers. Pvt. Larochelle as recently as several months ago underwent surgeries related to wounds suffered in the battle.
