  • DTD 154 - Rob Titchener's send off, a nation rejoices

    07/02/2017 Duración: 01h38min

Well who knew? Roifield mentioned Hardeep Singh Kohli last week and amazingly he listens to the Archers, DumTeeDum and will be joining the podcast next week for an interview, with Roifield observing that it will be nice to have someone funny on the show for once. Lucy was predictably miffed - but still delivered an amazing monologue examining in detail Pip and Toby's relationship. Relationship? Relationship? She moved onto Susan, Tracy, Justin, Lilian, Miranda showering them in jokes and then revisited Anisha's bush, which is not thought to be where Rob was hiding all week. She then imitated Henry to a "T" before arranging for Rob to be flattened, or at least get his comeuppance. Busy week in Ambridge. Roifield felt that the retention and possible redemption of Rob would make for interesting stories for many years to come. Lucy reflects that Rob's particular situation makes that almost impossible to engineer within the docu-drama - and might be a way forward in a few years when the current hatred...

  • DTD 153 - The Queen of The BBC Dumteedums and colonic insights

    31/01/2017 Duración: 01h18min

The DumTeeDum this week comes from the recently retired Queen Bee (Director) of BBC Radio - Helen Boaden. Several times in this podcast The Archers is credited with getting people into radio and/or drama. This is wonderful and long may it continue. Following Lucy's entertaining and enjoyable monologue (which briefly manages to review Anisha's bush and Rex's interest therein) the podcast gets extremely dirty very quickly as our hosts discuss shit in detail as Roifield talks about a colonic irrigation he enjoyed some years ago. Whilst he had the one he has never had a second! And with the probable / possible (?) end of Rob it is worth noting that Paul Trueman's just giving page has achieved £172k for Refuge - starting just about a year ago. Well done Paul. Naked Fingers is still very touched by being Lucy's favourite caller. And apparently there is a whisk(e)y meet up in May but no-one is admitting when or where it is. Can I come please? I like whisky, particularly Talisker. And then our hosts fell...

  • DTD 152 - Punditry is poop and what will Rob do next?

    24/01/2017 Duración: 01h15min

Lucy and Roifield are running on time this week, it is the summary which is late! Nosila opens proceedings with a kazoo provided by I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. Then Kosmo is told to sod off – but he is still writing podcast summaries, honest. Lucy discusses Lily’s party at great length as she is unable to discuss Lilian telling Justin about Rob as the microphones were not working at the time. Anyway Lucy’s dissection of the mooning is as funny as her description of Spring Shimmer – a wonderful new lipstick used by Susan. Lucy does not think Rob has gone – like Arnie he will be back. Roifield cannot understand why Lilian and Justin’s discussion was not transmitted – but I think it would have added nothing to the drama and instead we get the satisfaction of Rob being given an unexpected bum’s rush. My theory is that the new editor has decided to clear the detritus of the SoC era as quickly as possible so that he can steam the ship SS Archers in a different direction – the writers were told to wrap up...

  • DTD 151: The return of Stefan

    20/01/2017 Duración: 01h39min

On this week’s episode we have calls from Claire who thinks Roy is going to play daddy Yokelbear who’s feeling fighty Claire thinks we need to ask Toby the Brighton question Glyn who’s suspicious of Brian Robert who’s Lucy’s favourite slightly drunk fantasist Debs who wants to push Rob over the edge Dan John VII says Freddie’s in good company Blithe Spirit who thinks Justin’s loathsome and Witherspoon who says Lilian’s being used  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • DTD: 150 - Happy Birthday us and Tom Archer, pin head or Twonk?

    10/01/2017 Duración: 01h25min

Some of us can claim to have listened to 150 episodes of this podcast and have survived bouts of laughter to split our sides, crying enough to drown; the impact of tent flaps, tuna custard bake, scotch egg buns in ovens, stuffed culvert gate, Haugh gate and murdering mother in the motorway services. So time for another 30 minutes (if you believe that you will believe anything) of merriment in the hands of arch punner Lucy and podcast husband Roifield, some of it at the expense of that well known fly on the wall documentary "The Archers". Kosmo who hopes this is an accurate summary because he cannot get it to download in Mexico due to the flaky wifi! Will write again if download eventually works. Kosmo On this week’s episode we have calls from Barwick Green who’s focused on marital harmony Miriam who’s horrified by Tom Bye Bye Steve who wants Debbie to be less perfect Jacqueline Bertho who’s got a long arm quilting machine Maeve who says Joe’s due to be eaten by a ferret and Witherspoon who says...

  • DTD 149: Pregnancies, Star Wars and you're the father!

    04/01/2017 Duración: 01h15min

Normality returns for some value of normal. Lucy monologues, the callers call in and Roifield is extremely smug. Mexican wifi is pretty flaky so this summary will stop And start. Roifield is smug because Kirsty has the Scotch Egg in the oven as predicted and I am grateful to Paul Roome for providing all of the evidence. Lucy was far more concerned about the lack of dressmaking knowledge by the writer - Roifield did CSE needlework and agreed with Lucy. It is very strange this week. Dusty asks if Caz could be the next Hayley? Dusty can be found outside the Post Office. Moiness reports that the wonderful Felicity Jones (ex Emma Grundy) is great in Rogue One. Brummie through and through! And we all felt that the way Debbie cut Rob off at the balls was exemplary in both use of the character and the perfect delivery of Tamsin Greig. Kosmo another smug person in the sun in Mexico. On this week’s episode we have calls from Paul Roome who needs a punch in the face, Catherine Rowan Jones who’d like the...

  • DTD: 148 New Year with David Archer aka Tim Bentinck

    02/01/2017 Duración: 46min

A New Year special edition where Tim Bentinck (who sounds very like David Archer) recalls seeing in many New Years at Brookfield and other stories from the farm at the centre of Ambridge - including the man who must not be named (Sam the cowman) who almost wrecked David's marriage to Ruth. Roifield points out that The Archers is particularly good at mentioning birthdays and anniversaries - particularly the programme's own birthday on 1 January so the focus is often on Brookfield. The loss of Nigel is also covered - no-one was pleased with the departure of such an idio-syncratic character who was easily distinguished from the remainder of the cast. Nigel always stood out - and Tim admits that Nigel's scream was stretched in post-production to an unreasonable length. The subject matter then diverts to talking about accents as that is a particular interest of Tim's. Tim's recent appearance as a Doctor in Rillington Place is also mentioned. Tim has been in three different jobs recently with Tim Roth...

  • DTD: 147 - Andrew Horn and Yokelbear, with Millie Belle and Witherspoon

    29/12/2016 Duración: 01h23min

Once again the alternatives are taking over the asylum as Lucy and Roifield stand aside to allow Messrs Andrew Horn and YokelBear to seize control of the podcast and the recording deck is still showing signs of Christmas decorations as they start with a mega rendition of Barwick Green actually from Barwick in Elmet. YokelBear is fascinated by the impact of Toby on the Brookfield Archers - bad boys are always fun - so long as you are not directly involved. He also hopes Jill is keeping an eye on Ruth's cooking - if she manages to break out of her carapace. He also likes an inflatable snowman - the appearance of which they pinned on Rob. They were especially pleased that Rob may have led to a resumption of cottaging at Honeysuckle. Catherine (sorry missed the surname) started listening on the day David pushed Nigel off the Lower Loxley roof! She is therefore a "Henry". Another first time caller was Dan John the seventh! He is a "Phoebe" as he started listening in 1998. He has only just grasped that...

  • DTD: 146 - Christmas remembered in Ambridge with Terry Molloy

    26/12/2016 Duración: 46min

To Celebrate Xmas, todays episode is a little different, we take a look back at some Christmas storylines in Ambridge over the years with Terry Molloy, aka Mike Tucker Mike's major depression nearly resulting in him topping himself on Boxing Day 1991 he was talked out of suicide by Kathy Perks, Terry what led Mike to this dark place? Is the panto important to the Archers and how is it possible to rerun the same storyline each year, while keeping the listeners interested? Betty's death Christmas 2005 is also remembered.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • DTD 145: The eve of the Christmas show

    21/12/2016 Duración: 59min

So in your free weekly podcast what do you get? You get the following: a) A rendition of Barwick Green usually musical and often very good indeed, this week led by Aunty Jean b) Banter between Lucy and Roifield c) Lucy's monologue on the last week in Ambridge covered at high speed with bright lights shone into dark corners. The monologues are elsewhere on the Dumteedum site d) Banter between Lucy and Rofield e) Callers and sometimes emails are played / read and then discussed by our hosts f) Millie Belle provides an excellent report (many thanks Millie) from Australia on activities on the Facebook page and the Dumteedum forum g) Lucy then gives us the best five Tweets of the Week (unless there are more deserving tweets) with the tag #thearchers h) A mention of recent itunes reviews (and if not mentioned it means more are needed!) i) A mention of the shop j) Your opportunity to contribute to ensure the website stays free of Russian interference plus keeping the show on the road. k) Shambridges also...

  • DTD 144 - Will Benny move to the village and more hot Ambridge topics

    13/12/2016 Duración: 01h18min

The bickering starts early today as Lucy is correcting Roifield before he has completed the initial introductions. Then he tries to correct Lucy on the subject of the Premier League - never mind it does improve after that. Josh is turning into grass and we have to hope that no-one gets high when he goes up in smoke. Kosmo comments: historically the farmers used Field Reconnaissance Vehicles - but many many years ago it was agreed that they could refer to Land Rovers (most of the farmers have these) and there was a lot of fuss when Brian's new Merc was damaged a few years ago. However brand names have to be avoided! Lucy has been walking and talking at the same time. However she is worried about Jill - Toby is an idiot but Roifield has changed his mind about him - he does believe that Toby loves Pip - because he is not shagging about (Roifield was a little more coarse). But Toby remains an arse and is becoming less nice as time passes. Steve the secret listener calls in - you can find out why he was...

  • DTD - 143 Calls, Faithless and a rather cute Dumteedum!

    06/12/2016 Duración: 01h10min

Our hosts have an interesting discussion over the current story lines which are somewhat "meh" as far as Lucy is concerned whilst Roifield feels that the Pip and Toby extravaganza is finding different ways of investigating the Archer family dynamics. Pulling the wide variety of story lines together shows that our favourite fly on the wall documentary is back on the sort of form we should be enjoying. Jan from Can is sympathetic to Lilian and is still keen not to be without a man in her life after Matt's departure. Lucy is not sure that really explains her reluctance to name Rob. I feel that Justin's point that his decision relates to work also weighs heavily on her mind. Roy is described as both tedious and thick - now there is a character who could do with a personality transplant and a visit from the relevant fairy (Roifield converts it to solid and dependable) - by Steve from Poole (Byeeeeeeeeeee, Goodbyeeeeeeeeee) who also savages Jill over her feelings about the Fairbrother idiot. When will Pip...

  • DTD: 142 - Rehearsals, Anniversaries, Birthdays and Rude Maps

    29/11/2016 Duración: 01h09min

On this week’s episode we have calls from Yokelbear who’s bored Christine who’s still globetrotting and Witherspoon who’s confused. • DTD - 141 - Justin Elliot is worst than Rob and a new hashtag... F**k it we've always got the The Archers!

    22/11/2016 Duración: 01h03min

Absolutely splendiferous update from Lucy this week as the lively mix of Ambridge stories enables a wide ranging review of how not to recruit panto players. Then the mood turns darker as Roifield (who has embraced the madness of the post-truth world) explains to us all that whilst Rob might be a bit of a cad and a bounder the really nasty thing in the woodshed is JUSTIN ELLIOTT who is going to exploit the general hatred for Rob to move forward all of his huge development plans for the countryside. Rob gets all the stick and Justin is the do-gooder making charitable contributions. This has been signposted for a long time - naming the village hall, affair with Lilian, closing the mega-dairy on a whim, sending Charlie away on a made up charge. Roifield has worked it out! Millie Belle is having a difficult time at work and the Forum and Facebook are bringing some joy and giggles to her life - please contribute more to keep her happy! Nosila has the tweet of the week! Kosmo On this week’s episode we...

  • DTD - 140 Harriet and Lucy discuss Neil's moan and other stuff

    15/11/2016 Duración: 01h17min

Roifield is away so Harriet and Lucy are in high pitched hollering harpy harness for our weekly update. Before all that however we hear tales of their childhood activities with Harriet running wild in the Wallops and Lucy still cringing with embarrassment in the supermarket at the memory of the most obvious murder mystery stories ever. And that is before Lucy tells Harriet to ignore the script! Wild and hairy roller coaster ride this week! Harriet's grandpa's cousin is the very wonderful Ian Carmichael of Lord Peter Wimsey fame is just one of many of Harriet's family to get a name check. The DumTeeDum this week was https://soundcloud.com/robmanuel/the-archers-1992 by Rob Manuel. Bravo! Harriet missed Miranda's opening - but the point was the imminent breakdown between Justin and Lilian as Lucy explained and Harriet concurred - they now sound like an old married couple. Brighton was discussed, Harriet has a new theory - she thinks it is community service. Or as Lucy thinks is it drugs? Or a "wife"...

  • DTD - 137 - Callerinnerers of the world unite!

    28/10/2016 Duración: 13min

Lucy has taken a holiday as it is half term in the UK so after the very special episode 136 this episode concentrates on DumTeeDum's magnificent callerinerers. Ellen, a vet from Glasgow, reckons that llamas are pretty mean and do not like having their mouths looked at. A real expert commentary - this is why we have callers! Next up is Maeve who is locked out of Twitter so cannot vent in the normal way! She thought Shula was sweet last week. Glyn considered it to be another fantastic week in Ambridge, whilst Naked Fingers reports that he has just finished making homemade butter on his birthday. Both seem convinced that there has to be some great payoff for Rob at the end of this story - NF wants a bang. Blithe Spirit tears a strip off all the Foulbrethern plus Pip who needs to grow up. She then laid into Kenton for not barring Rob from the Bull. Debs from Germany reckons that Jill was just fed up with Pip being a complete arse! It is her right and perogative. Paul Roome and I continue to believe... &

  • DTD 136: Tim Bentinck and Terry Molloy remember

    24/10/2016 Duración: 56min

David Archer aka Tim Bentinck and Mike Tucker aka Terry Molloy talk about actors who have passed on or left The Archers.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • DTD 135: Short sweet and to the point!

    18/10/2016 Duración: 01h03min

This week in Ambridge Lucy has Roy in artificial fibres, Johnny being very hairy, Oliver looking after joints, Jill as a clown and armed with secateurs, Tony being run over with a Dyson, Susan as a strong black woman, listless Lynda getting sweet talked by Robert with assistance from Kate who has nothing better to do as the bottom has dropped out of the yurt market - this will probably amuse in the same way as an amusement arcade; possibly Shula has had a tent flap interchange with Alastair who has suddenly cheered up and is talking to her again and relations also resumed at Honeysuckle Cottage - presumably in the hot tub. At least I think she said something like that - listen for yourselves. Roifield and Lucy feel like Ambridge has come home - characters are driving the story, especially Tom's smelly socks. Opinions are divided over Shula being in the driving seat of a story. Lucy reckons that in fact it has been a decent story arc - Shula has been heard by Alastair whilst Neil has been such a caring...
