  • Ep: 121 - William Smethurst tribute and Shambridges.

    01/08/2016 Duración: 01h31min

Harriet of Shambridges fame sits in with Roifield this week as Lucy is away and in place of the usual summary she provides a wonderful soundalike of various characters having phone sex with Justin. Yes like Lucy, Harriet is highly attuned to the extensive sexual activity now replacing the gaslighting. Roifield credits Smethurst with the affair between Kathy and DS Barry – but this happened some years later under the editorship of Ruth Patterson. It was during this period and subsequently that the balance of the programme changed and the women became dominant and steadily the males in the programme were less well defined and written. Harriet claimed she only had four items to discuss – but later proved she had pages and pages. Roifield asked for discussion points for men’s hour in a couple of weeks and so please send him some. Harriet is bored by cricket and prefers football. Graham Blockey is the alter ego of Robert Snell and is rarely available to the team as he is a GP in Dorking in Surrey which is... &#

  • DTD 120 - The Peasants Revolt

    25/07/2016 Duración: 01h25min

Another week another podcast. No summary last week in view of the poignant message from Tracy Chevin and this one is later than normal. There is a lack of new DumTeeDums to open the show – contributions are needed from all of us! Following her usual bedrock solid but rumbustious run down of Sex and the City, sorry The Archers (with added sex) Lucy was upbraided by Roifield for some alleged errors. She also included one very real error in that Peggy has not left Rob her home – she changed her will after she realised she had upset Tony. Lucy kept referring to her immediate holidays and Roifield is planning a week with various male replacements but could not think of an unreconstructed male to fill one of the vacant chairs. I hereby offer my services and I have just come back from Yorkshire too! Kosmo does remember Jill putting Lynda in her place over one panto, reminding her that it was supposed to be enjoyable, but I do not remember Lynda flouncing out completely before. Tweets of the week featured...

  • DTD - 119 - How Evil is Bruce?

    18/07/2016 Duración: 01h07min

From Tracy Chevin: As you are aware, following on from my sponsorship of dumteedum, my husband was terminally ill with cancer. He sadly passed away on 18.6.16 at home with his family around him. He wasn't an archers fan but did listen along when I played dum tee dum. He was thrilled to be mentioned and that it'll be in the archives for me to look back on. This is Dumteedum the show about the reality docu-drama that is centered on Ambridge in the heart of the Midlands. On this week’s episode we have calls from Steve who’s enjoying the friends with benefits Jane who has discovered an anomaly in the elderflower cordial retail price index Steven Perkins who is disappointed in the Grundys and Andrew Horne who says watch out Pip.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Ep: 118 - Toby and Pip and Lillian and National Anthems and stuff!

    11/07/2016 Duración: 01h13min

Lucy has been watching sport and managed to include a load of joke balls but avoided the googlies, which is welcome. Then there is sport talk before turning to The Archers and Toby getting his legover, where we have to hope that this is not a repeat visit to infighting brothers (a la Grundies). I (Kosmo) sounded awful on my contribution and I admit I used a different tablet, so I blame Windows 10! To answer the question asked Ben was born on 15 March 2002 and so he is 14 years old. Everyone else made wonderful contributions covering Pip and Toby and their shenanigans; Kaz helping Helen to remember is almost magical; elvish movements around the village; the sad and distressing racist abuse happening at present in the real world; Anna Toboggan who has suddenly morphed into complete disaster from heroine; the morals of Justin and Lilian; for some reason the cricketing disasters hardly get a look in. Lucy is having a holiday in early August and Harriet will be sitting in for a couple of weeks as... &n

  • Ep:117 Elves, Bad mothers and Elderflower Cordial

    05/07/2016 Duración: 58min

We had a very sad email from Maisiejet this week. She says “Just wanted to say that I was introduced to Dum Tee Dum by my dear friend Ruth Johnson. She was an equally bonkers Archers Fan. Ruth died on 21/06/2016. This was sudden and unexpected but she had suffered poor health for a number of years.” Rest in peace, Ruth, and much love to you Maisiejet from the dumteedum family. On this week’s episode we have calls from Steve who says nuke the elves Claire who’s worried about Lilian New York Nigel who’s doing his grocery shopping Glyn who has a bleak idea Yokelbear who has a case for the Ambridge X-Files Kosmo who explains everything Witherspoon who’s cross with Kate and Miss Mid City who has a point of order.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • DTD - 116 Josh gets a silent talking too, twice!

    28/06/2016 Duración: 01h11min

Top News: Lucy is celebrating her birthday and this was recognised in fine style by Roifield and a loyal fan singing "Happy Birthday". Lucy, in her monologue, noted that it was probably the first time any villager had thought to tell off Hooty Jill and then remarked once again on what a good friend Rex is to Pip - even when her unfunny drunken speech is used. It was pleasing to note that Pat has woken up not that she can afford to meet Anna Toboggan. Lucy struggles to recall Lynda's two goats Demeter and Persephone who went to Lower Loxley. Gemma, a first time caller, decided to express her views on Kate's treatment of Phoebe - so how did your exams go Gemma? Let us know please. Most of us will be surprised if Josh passes anything. Ms Alliance seems far more concerned about her neighbour in Seattle and her en-suite shower than about The Archers! Ms Alliance feels that the referendum might impact the Sterling exit plan to Italy. Andrew Horn laid into the younger characters who are replicating...

  • DTD - 115 Dressing downs, drunks and temptation

    21/06/2016 Duración: 01h16min

Lucy opened with a highly topical monologue (also packed with jokes) which ended with reference to the need for 'Rexit'! Our hosts then discussed the political situation, Russian dashcam videos and then online videos of horrors being extracted from ears! The callers stick to discussing the Archers and the elderflower cordial index which is getting a lot of online coverage. Claire, a construction planner, phoned from Florence to annoy Lucy! She also droned on about drones. Steve thinks Joe has pegged it. He also believes the drones will undermine Rob. Lucy is worried about the stains at Grange Farm. Whispering Ellen was the third first time caller celebrating the return of the "Lost". One of her predictions failed on Sunday. Other comments focussed on the need for character expiry to post date the loss of the relevant best friend. Lucy has heard rumours that the Ab Fab film may not be entirely splendiferous. Goddess Deeva talks about how deaf the men of Ambridge can be! Tweet of the Week came... &#

  • DTD 114 - Recorded on an iPhone

    16/06/2016 Duración: 01h15min

DumTeeDum has been on a slight diet this week as it shrinks down to 76min. Proper acknowledgement is made of the contribution by Alan Devereux as Sid Perks by Roifield and I would add my personal recollection of the first ever Ambridge two hander when Kathy (Hedli Niklaus) challenged him on over the affair with Jolene in the Rovers Bar late one evening, when she was the last person in the village to know. Compelling listening. There is some allegation that this TA week was a bit "bitty" but clearly the team are going round tidying up loose ends and setting up a new shape to the village and covering a lot of stories. This is how The Archers should be done and we should welcome this return almost to form, even if Lynda is perhaps showing some odd traits. The class comparisons were strong this week as Kaz asked if Helen was posh! Much continuing discussion over the relationship between Justin and Lilian by many contributors. Lucy's monologue provided a strong opening and the best bit of the week for me...

  • DTD - 113 - Indecent proposal

    07/06/2016 Duración: 01h53min

Before noting how good Lucy's monologue was this week Roifield announced that it was inevitable that they would be disagreeing. It took a while before he admitted that he does not have the objection shown by some contributors to the intended liaison between Lilian and Justin. Lucy's objection is not moral - merely on the basis of self-esteem. Roifield is more supportive of Justin's wish for companionship and to enjoy each other's company in many ways. Eventually our podcast husband and wife ended up having a domestic over the relationship! Lucy believes that it will all end in Lilian's tears. We then leave Ambridge behind for Roifield to recall a visit by Muhammad Ali to Birmingham in 1977. It is the holiday season. Lucy has been around Rome and Andrew Horn is sipping coffee by the pool. My wife is away. My next holiday is not for months! And Yokel Bear wants Robert Snell to be given an award! Witherspoon remarked on Joe's failing health and the potential for a physical assault on Henry by Rob...

  • DTD - 108 - Lucy is not listening to The Archers!

    26/04/2016 Duración: 01h31min

On this week’s episode we have calls from: The latest twist and turns in Ambridge have brought even dedicated listener Lucy to a deafening halt as she refuses to listen next week - which is lucky as there will be no podcast next week. She promises to listen the following week by when Roifield will be resettled in one of the colonies. Yes Lucy feels that the story Rob told the police was unbelievable - but it gives Helen motive and the means and opportunity are already established, so a conviction should be easily established. With Rob home of course Henry will join him. Callers this week are particularly perceptive and as usual the missing cast members (particularly Kathy) are lamented - it is simply terribly poor that such a constant friend of Pat's would not be mentioned. It has been said many times that one over dominating story does not work - when will a new editor sort it out - the post has now been advertised Millie Belle reports. There was also a question about how the podcast came...

  • DTD - 107 Boom, Mike Tucker is back, Terry Molloy interviewed!

    18/04/2016 Duración: 01h52min

Another mega issue this week - not 30, not 60 but 113 minutes and we welcome Davros to the team in form of Terry Molloy who gives a great run down of his involvement in The Archers since 1973, how the programme process has hardly changed over the last 40 years as well as answering questions from callers, not only about being Mike but also in his other acting roles. Mike and the team recall some of Mike's wonderful moments over the years and he hopes the right story will bring the entire family back to the village. Kosmo is very concerned about Lilian's credit card and will be contributing on Damara's position shortly. Witherspoon seems to be lamenting the quieter stories which are now asserting their rightful place in The Archers and Lucy disagrees and she loves that the tension has gone and she can now worry about Neil's eggs and painting the shepherd's hut. And in theory Helen is much safer now. And a special guest - a forensic scientist from Southampton - who provides much illumination on the blood...

  • The blood splattered Blossom Hill Cottage show

    11/04/2016 Duración: 02h06min

A long week with this Podcast as the events following the murder attempt are dissected in the finest blood soaked detail. In reality not much happened in The Archers this week apart from following the police in action which is not the most humorous activity in the world. By the end of the week the police had detected that Rob had a tracker on Helen's phone (which some had guessed anyway) and not much else and the following had made statements of one description or another that will suit the case for the prosecution: Kirsty, Pat, Ursula, Henry, Susan and no doubt a few others. It will take a very clever barrister to mount any form of defence. In other news Rob got a colostomy bag and Peggy showed sympathy to Ursula who was cleaning up the mess caused by the tuna bake and the apple pie and custard and blood. Unusually there was a dissenting voice who did not agree with Roifield and many contributors who have been quiet in recent weeks have rejoined the callerinerers and emailers. Welcome back. After a...

  • DTD - 105 - Helen arrested special!

    08/04/2016 Duración: 47min

A special edition this Thursday to mark Helen being formally arrested with a wounding charge. Roifield is in sole charge conducting three interviews. DTD have consulted Matthew Scott, a criminal barrister with 30 years of experience, a detailed blog and a keen legal mind who has joined the podcast at great cost. He wisely predicted a formal charge of attempted murder and explains some of the legal processes involved. Henry could well be a witness, but not in the witness box - usually by video link. CPS decide on the prosecution, if Rob chooses not to give evidence this would seriously weaken the prosecution case. http://barristerblogger.com/ Paul Trueman's fund raising has continued apace at https://www.justgiving.com/helentitchener/? and has now reached £108k and is looking to raise £125k and gift aid will add hugely to this. More contributions welcomed. Paul has spent some time with the Refuge team in London and finding out how the money will be spent. There will also be merchandise: "Free the... &

  • 104 - Helen stabs Rob, The Archers just got real!

    04/04/2016 Duración: 01h38min

Roifield and Lucy normally try to avoid events on Sunday evening when they record on a Monday morning but this week the allegedly momentous happenings are covered in forensic detail. So spoilers for this week appear below. Although the sound of the knife dropping to the floor was missed the rest is covered with every bloody fingerprint examined. Well written, well performed and the sound effects team are almost given a Roifield clap. What lets the side down Roifield explains in measured and certain terms is that within The Archers universe this was the wrong ending. As he points out the opportunity to provide a clean and undisputed solution with Helen being permitted to rediscover her inner self and strength in line with her long standing character attributes has been sacrificed for column inches and notoriety. A soap ending when it could have been so much more and achieve better realism than police and the law stamping all over an already down trodden woman. Titian73 uncannily predicts the Sunday... &#

  • DTD - 103 Helen lets rip, Bert is lonely and talk of Kanye West

    28/03/2016 Duración: 01h16min

This summary was conceived in Auckland! Whilst this podcast may be about The Archers our hosts never feel constrained so with Lucy powered by Gusto this week the following get name checks or more: Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Amy Winehouse, Eric Gill whose alleged sexual proclivities do not alter his ability to design a typeface. Lucy then went Baskerville Gothic. As ever callers impress with the range & clarity of their knowledge & I can now report on farming in New Zealand having had a chance to look at farms in both islands. Millie Belle avoids the subject of rain in Australia. Everyone please listen to the podcast for your own sanity, if only to prove that others listen to The Archers. Kosmo On this week’s episode we have calls from Not Contrary who’s a font of wisdom Kat Brown who’s dreaming about Titchynob New York Nigel who thinks the writers need more confidence and Vicky Cole who thinks that Helen’s obstetrician is Toby  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out info
