It's Monday, so that means we need some motivation! Well, on that note, as you chase after your goals in life, whether they be fitness, finance, faith, or anything for that matter, approach each day with a singles and doubles strategy. When you step into the batter's box that is a new day, don't swing for the fences. Instead, stay patient, wait for your "pitch", and focus on singles and doubles. • Ep #22: How My Bodybuilding Career Started

    20/04/2018 Duración: 22min

Man, it's been nearly 20 years that I've been hitting the bodybuilding stage! That's crazy to think about...especially when I think back to how it all began. Back in 2000, while nursing a broken leg, I read Arnold Schwarzenegger's biography, got all fired up to compete, and did my first show in Spring, 2001. Sure, I got laughed off the stage and had no business being out there, but little did I know, it would turn into so much more. • Ep #21: How to Analyze the Stock Market

    19/04/2018 Duración: 20min

How do you analyze the stock market? Basically, there are three ways: technical analysis, fundamental analysis, and quantitative analysis. In this episode, I give a broad overview of each one, along with a brief comment or two regarding my personal evaluations of each technique. In doing this podcast, it dawned on me that this idea would also make for a great video series on YouTube, so be sure and stay tuned to the YT Channel, too! • Ep #20: Sleep in the Storm

    17/04/2018 Duración: 18min

I've got to give credit where credit is due, as the inspiration for this segment was inspired by the song "Sleep in the Storm" by Unspoken. If you guys haven't heard of them before, they're nothing short of incredible, so I would check them out ASAP. That, along with Paul's words of encouragement in Acts 27, and Jesus' own act of sleeping through the storm (literally) in Mark and Matthew give us all a great example of how to respond, when life inevitably sends storms our way. • Ep #19: Toggling the Variables: Training and Nutrition

    16/04/2018 Duración: 19min

If your focus is body recomposition, either in the form of fat loss or muscle gain, then the two variables at play will always be training and nutrition. However, I posit that the training variable should almost always be fixed at maximizing muscle growth, while it is the nutrition variable that will be manipulated to meet your goals. Even if your ultimate goal is fat loss, you'll want to train to build (or maintain) muscle to prevent excess metabolic slowdown, encourage your body to keep its precious muscle, and achieve the look you are most likely going for. Don't worry - you won't accidentally wake up one day too massive...wondering how you let that happen :) Let's connect on IG: https://www.instagram.com/jschultzf3/

  • Ep #18: BLTs - Bites, Licks, and Tastes

    13/04/2018 Duración: 06min

Whoever that girl was that I recently found while doing a mindless scroll on the internet who coined the term, BLT, to refer to Bites, Licks, and Tastes, was a genius. This is pure brilliance! The thing is all those little nuggets of this or nibbles of that add up...sometimes quickly. I know I fall victim to too many BLTs all the time. Not surprisingly, when I reign those guys in and track them or avoid them altogether, my progress becomes consistent and predictable. So, if your own progress has stalled and you're confused or frustrated as to why, I'd be honest with yourself and give your own BLTs a hard audit. • Ep #17: Putting Your Dollars to Work

    12/04/2018 Duración: 18min

The two areas that I'm most passionate about within the world of finance are trading/investing and saving/budgeting. The pathway to any type of financial security is going to inevitably involve these two actions. Well, in this podcast, I wanted to offer up a unique way to think about your dollars...as employees...of YOUR company. If we look to how any corporation works, and map that understanding over to our own situations, we'll recognize that the parallel is undeniable. • Ep #16: If I Was a Beginner - Part Two

    11/04/2018 Duración: 19min

Back in part one, I laid out some general thoughts regarding what my general approach to training and nutrition would be, if I were starting over as a beginner again. But, I didn't get into too many specifics about the details surrounding what each session on that training split would look like, or exactly how I would look to execute a brand new nutritional strategy. Well, here in part two, I wanted to do exactly that, so that you beginners out there now have a nice foundation to begin to build on. • Ep #15: If I Was a Beginner - Part One

    10/04/2018 Duración: 20min

If I was starting all over again in the world of fitness, and I was an absolute beginner, how would I approach training and nutrition? With nearly twenty years of experience in physical fitness and competitive bodybuilding, I would simplify the entire process. From a training standpoint, I would ditch any type of "bro" split, or anything that was overly complicated, and I would simply do a 3-day or 4-day per week split: Full Body or Upper Body/Lower Body. From a nutrition standpoint, I would invest the time and effort into tracking my nutrition for at least a month or so. Even if you don't want to do this longer-term, which I respect, the knowledge and awareness you will gain throughout this process will be invaluable to you. • Ep #14: Gospel Momentum

    09/04/2018 Duración: 18min

A few weeks ago, I did a piece that suggested a "Circular Approach to Applying the Gospel". Well, in putting that episode together, the idea for this episode was born - with many thanks to my wife, Autumn. The idea is that a daily application to the gospel is more than just a circle...it's a snowball. And, the more and more it builds and expands, the more and more we are left with one overwhelming feeling: hope. Let's connect on IG: https://www.instagram.com/jschultzf3/

  • Ep #13: Which is Harder? The Mental or the Physical?

    06/04/2018 Duración: 16min

During any lengthy battle of physique transformation, which is harder, the mental battle or the physical battle? My knee-jerk reaction, which I think most would agree with, is that on any given day, the mental battle is more challenging. However, drawing on my experience with competition prep, I suggested that the physical battle might actually be harder at two very distinct points - the beginning and the end.

  • Ep #12: FOMO and Faith

    01/04/2018 Duración: 06min

FOMO is real. And FOMO when it comes to faith might be the realest it gets. I know firsthand how it feels to wonder if going all in on Jesus might leave you feeling like you're "missing out". Make no mistake, I still struggle with this now - today. But the growth in my faith and my walk with God has revealed an important truth to me. The more you push towards Jesus, not only do you not miss out, but He unlocks doors in your heart you never even knew were there, let alone locked.

  • Ep #11: Special Guest Angelo Liloc of MOD3RN NUTRITION

    30/03/2018 Duración: 44min

Man, you guys are in for a treat today! My man Angelo Liloc from MOD3RN NUTRITION joined the podcast today, and this dude has been on an incredible journey. He holds nothing back and shares an inspirational story of overcoming adversity that highlights his own path that lead him to an intersection of fitness and faith, where he came face-to-face with his One, True Identity. Lastly, he leaves all of us beginners out there, trying to find the motivation to finally make it happen, with a truth about the whole process of getting in shape that I had never realized before! You guys do not want to miss this one.

  • Ep #10: How Much Money You Make Doesn't Matter

    28/03/2018 Duración: 08min

Everyone is always so focused on how much money they make. Everyone is so fixated on making more and more money that they so often forget one key thing: how much money you make doesn't matter...how much money you keep does. If you make a bunch of money, but you spend it all, then you won't move any closer to any of your financial goals. In today's society, with all the glitz and glamour on getting more stuff, saving money is no small feat - but it's the only way.

  • Ep #9: "My Sheep Hear My Voice, and I Know Them..."

    24/03/2018 Duración: 19min

The image of Jesus as a Shepherd is pretty well-known within the Christian faith, as it's directly in Scripture...a few different times, I think. Well, thanks to Priscilla Shirer's Voice of God study, I learned a whole bunch about the relationship that shepherds had with their sheep back in the early days. This special bond has all kinds of interesting nuances and important implications for us today, and I share a few of the things I learned from Priscilla Shirer and a couple of ideas that spawned from that new knowledge.

  • Ep #8: Why I Track Macros

    23/03/2018 Duración: 21min

I definitely thought it was episode #9 in this podcast, but it's clearly only episode #8. Nevertheless, here's an episode I was excited to do from the instant that the idea of a podcast popped into my head. With no shortage of options available to us, when it comes to nutritional strategies, why do I choose to track macros? In this episode, I share two detailed reasons why (it's what's happening inside of us anyway, and it better controls binges), and I lob some playful jabs at our keto and IF friends, while doing so.

  • Ep #7: A Circular Approach to Applying the Gospel

    15/03/2018 Duración: 17min

Tonight, I'm shooting from the hip..! I recently made a discovery in my faith journey that lead me to viewing my day-to-day application of the gospel as a "circle" of sorts. It begins with the Word of God (although, as you'll hear in this episode, I didn't originally think it should start here.) You then submit your requests/dreams/aspirations to God, you do your best, you release yourself from any worry or anxiety over the outcome, and you finish by resubmitting that same prayer back to God. The re-submission part at the end was the piece of the puzzle that I just recently discovered, with the help of my wife, Autumn. Needless to say, it has had a powerful impact on me in a very short time, and it has helped to reshape how I view the "do your best" point on the circle.

  • Ep #6: Training/Nutrition with Flip Aguilera of Sweat Nation

    13/03/2018 Duración: 32min

Here in episode #6 of the podcast, we bring in our first guest - Flip Aguilera of Sweat Nation! And man, what an interesting guy Flip is. His holistic view of training and nutrition opened my eyes to some things I hadn't really considered before. We talk about training and nutrition, and Flip shares his thoughts on working with clients on fat loss, his views towards calorie counting, and his recent emphasis on "instinctual training". Oh, and we talk a little about when I just met Flip, we trained together, and he single-handedly buried me with his Downward Dog/Upward Dog superset that he sneakily labeled as a "warm-up".

  • Ep #5: The Power of the Penny

    09/03/2018 Duración: 17min

In this first finance only episode of the podcast, I wanted to work through a powerful illustration that showcases just how valuable time is inside of the investment puzzle. To make this point, we start with the tiniest little seed: a penny. The reality is, if you are in your 20s or 30s, then you have so much time on your side, that you need to start putting that to work for you immediately! If you are a little further along in life, then you've still likely got a "double" or two left in your portfolio, so you need to take today's message, run with it, and not wait another second!

  • Ep #4: A Strategic Approach to Weekly Weight Loss

    05/03/2018 Duración: 17min

Let's be honest - losing a lot of weight or shedding a ton of fat is hard. It's really hard. And to make it all the more difficult, I think people all too often feel pressure to continually grind lower each and every day. The reality is, however, even when we do everything perfectly, our day-to-day body weight can do some pretty wacky things. So instead of trying to move the scale lower every 24 hours, I offer up a strategic approach to using your lowest body weight each week as your new benchmark.
