  • GBH Early Edition - Monday September 21st, 2020

    21/09/2020 Duración: 12min

Good Monday morning from GBH News and the Morning Edition team. Henry Santoro is in for Joe Mathieu this morning who is out-of-office today. Henry and the team recap the weekend, where apple picking is apparently the hot thing to do in a Covid-19 world. Orchards are seeing unprecedented interest this fall as families look for safe ways to pass the time and keep the kids socially distanced. A frigid morning out there today, which reminds us autumn is in air even though it is technically still summer. And the only way to close out the 21st of September is of course with a little Earth, Wind and Fire. Enjoy your week, and thanks for waking up with GBH Radio.

  • GBH Early Edition - Friday September 18th, 2020

    18/09/2020 Duración: 15min

Hey welcome to Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and the GBH Radio Morning Edition team. That famous autumn wind will blow in for the weekend, with sub-60 degree temperatures expected for much of the area… just a little slice of what’s to come in the next few weeks. One Morning Edition member has acquired a pumpkin carving kit in anticipation of this, but alas, no pumpkin in house yet. Tough night for the Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals, and some fireworks in the locker room after the game. And a tale of two events for Biden and Trump last night in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Get your fleeces ready for the weekend to enjoy the fall weather, and thanks for tuning in to GBH Radio.

  • GBH Early Edition - Thursday September 17th, 2020

    17/09/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Thursday morning from GBH Radio and our Morning Edition crew. Welcome to Thursday, always Joe Mathieu’s favorite day because its “Little Friday”. A lot of schools are back in full swing, and with remote learning in place for most parents, the challenges from last Spring are back in full force. This morning GBH News debuted a poll on the 2021 mayoral race in Boston. And President Trump did it again, this time contradicting his own head of the CDC on multiple Covid-19 issues hours after Robert Redfield gave testimony to the Senate. Stay safe and enjoy the oncoming autumn, and thanks for waking up with GBH.

  • GBH Early Edition - Wednesday September 16th, 2020

    16/09/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Wednesday morning from GBH Radio, Joe Mathieu and our entire Morning Edition team. Sleep is a hot topic this morning, as it appears the majority of us haven’t gotten a lot of it this week. There are a lot of challenges with waking up before 3AM each weekday morning, and we document some of them today. Looks like outdoor dining may continue until December in this area, but you might want to grab your favorite sweater or fleece. And another night, another round of less-than-Presidential soundbites and tweets from Donald Trump. Hey its midweek and its all downhill from here… thanks for waking up with GBH!

  • GBH Early Edition - Tuesday September 15th, 2020

    15/09/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Morning and welcome to Tuesday from Joe Mathieu and the GBH Morning Edition team. Another early morning during a pandemic, another day of remote broadcasts via zoom - but we can’t help but notice the crisp chill in the air this morning… yes autumn is arriving and winter isn’t far behind it. President Trump sat down with California lawmakers yesterday to address the rampant wildfires out west, but all we were left with was yet another Trump soundbite. Keep your chins up, have a great day, and thank you for waking up with GBH News and the Morning Edition team.

  • GBH Early Edition - Monday September 14th, 2020

    14/09/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Monday morning from Joe Mathieu and our entire GBH Morning Edition team. We start the week as usual, as the first local show to crack the mics in Boston radio, and we like it that way. Big weekend around these parts including the return of football and some spectacular weather. Our head writer Brendan set out to climb Mount Washington and we’re happy to report that he did so successfully, even if he is suffering with sore muscles as a result. We’ll catch you up on the latest from the weekend and get you ready to tackle your work week. Thank you for waking up Morning Edition and GBH Radio.

  • GBH Early Edition - Friday September 11th, 2020

    11/09/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and GBH Morning Edition team. Rejoice, the weekend has finally arrived and we made it there together. Its the 19th anniversary of 9/11, so we spent a little time remembering and honoring. Both Presidential candidates will visit Shanksville, Pennsylvania today to commemorate the heroes from flight 93. In other news one Morning Edition team member has lofty hiking goals for the weekend, but at least the weather looks great for him. Plus that leads Joe to recall something from his Broadcasting Bucket List that will probably never happen. Have a great weekend, stay safe, and thanks for waking up with GBH.

  • GBH Early Edition - Thursday September 10th, 2020

    10/09/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Thursday Morning, or as we like to call it around here, “Little Friday”. We’re waking up with a cloudy day in Boston but the GBH Morning Edition team is here to brighten your day. President Trump apparently had time to sit for eighteen interviews with Bob Woodward in the past six months, and now his denials and re-directions have commenced, but this time its all on tape. Meanwhile Covid is still raging and much of Northern California is bathed in an eerie red glow from rampant wildfires. As Karen points out, 2020 has become one long and extended episode of Black Mirror. Stay safe and stay sane out there and thank you for waking up with Joe Mathieu and GBH.

  • GBH Early Edition - Wednesday September 9th, 2020

    09/09/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Wednesday morning from GBH Radio’s Morning Edition team. Joe Mathieu and the AM crew are greeting you this Wednesday morning with news and more on what we like to call “The Best 10”. The transition from “WGBH” to just “GBH” hasn’t been an easy one, but we hope we’re finally getting the hang of it - although we wonder where exactly that W went. In Covid news one lab in Boston that processes tests may have been churning out false positives. And Mayor Walsh had a good back-and-forth with a local reporter that left us with a sweet sound drop to use in the future. Thanks as always for waking up with GBH radio.

  • GBH Early Edition - Tuesday September 8th, 2020

    08/09/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Tuesday morning, we hope you had a great holiday weekend. Thanks for joining Joe Mathieu and our GBH Morning Edition team this AM. Its the day after labor day, for kids everywhere its the unofficial end of summer and that means the rules change… bedtimes are rolled back and of course homework is mandatory before play can occur. A bit foggy out there this morning, be careful if you’re out before the sun burns it off. It appears the Wu Train is coming for Marty Walsh and the Mayor’s Office… get ready for more than a year of spirited campaigning. Thanks for waking up with us and thanks for being a loyal GBH listener.

  • GBH Early Edition - Friday September 4th, 2020

    04/09/2020 Duración: 14min

We made it to Friday, and Joe Mathieu and the GBH Early Edition team are here to greet you. Despite some technical difficulties concerning web cameras on Facebook Live, we powered through and the broadcast carried on. We recap a tough last second loss for Boston Celtics, and listen in as the President once again encourages his followers to commit what may be a felony in many states in attempting to vote twice. The weather for the holiday weekend looks spectacular, not that we have a lot to do out there regardless. Stay safe and enjoy the three day weekend. Thanks for waking up with GBH Radio.

  • GBH Early Edition - Thursday September 3rd, 2020

    03/09/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Thursday morning, or as we like to call it “Little Friday”. Joe Mathieu and the GBH Morning Edition team are up early and cooking up the morning news copy in anticipation of the new day. Boston is losing yet another nightlife institution in The Pour House, but Brendan is less than concerned about the loss of some of these Boston bars. Consensus seems to be that college students won’t have much left to do once in-person classes fully resume. And the President is now encouraging voters in North Carolina to try and vote twice, despite it being highly illegal to do so. Have a great day and thanks for waking up with GBH and Morning Edition.

  • GBH Early Edition - Wednesday September 2nd, 2020

    02/09/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Wednesday morning from Joe Mathieu and our GBH Morning Edition team (yes, the W is officially gone). Most of us are running on fumes this morning after staying up late and covering the Massachusetts primary races. We’ll recap the results and bring you some of the highlights from our special broadcast last night on GBH and Facebook Live. Plus, just when you think the President has made his most ridiculous comment yet, he manages to top himself with… performance enhancing drugs? Have a great Wednesday and thank you for waking up with GBH Radio.

  • GBH Early Edition - Tuesday September 1st, 2020

    01/09/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Tuesday morning from Joe Mathieu and our GBH Morning Edition team. We’re re-branding the mothership today, out goes the “W” but the “GBH” is staying. Joe explains why and preemptively apologizes for the inevitable gaffes, mix-ups and mistakes that will come with it. It’s primary day in Massachusetts and state officials are predicting a record turnout, even though much of it was done in advance or by mail. Should be a good day to socially distance outdoors and in line if you need to, so get out there and make sure your vote is counted. Thanks as always for waking up with us, and thanks for choosing GBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Monday August 31st, 2020

    31/08/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Monday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. We start a new week with anticipation for primary day, which is taking place tomorrow in Massachusetts. Joe and most of the team got together for the first time since March and pounded the pavement to cover the races, we’ll have a lot more and hear from the candidates on today’s Morning Edition. Plus unrest continues in the streets of many cities across the country, with the President basically encouraging conflict between protesters and his supporters. Have a great week and make sure you get out there and vote. Thanks for waking up with WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition- Friday August 28th, 2020

    28/08/2020 Duración: 14min

Good morning and welcome to Friday from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Final night of the RNC is in the books and we’ll give you the highlights. All major sports leagues cancelled games last night (and tonight) in solidarity with protesters seeking change after the shooting of Jacob Blake. Decent weather for the weekend, but the better weather day is definitely Sunday. Get out there and enjoy it safely, and thank you for waking up with WGBH Radio and Morning Edition.

  • WGBH Early Edition -Thursday August 27th, 2020

    27/08/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Thursday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Radio’s Morning Edition Team. The week is winding down, but the news is definitely not: Social unrest, racial justice, political races and conventions, a hurricane, oh and a pandemic to boot. We try and recap it all in just 10 minutes and get you caught up. Congressman Jim McGovern will go on his annual tour of Massachusetts farms today. Plus Brendan prefers to take part in Early Edition outdoors while he’s at home (weather permitting) and this morning that brought some challenges. Thanks for waking up with us, and thanks for tuning in to WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday August 26th, 2020

    26/08/2020 Duración: 14min

Good morning and welcome to Wednesday from Joe Mathieu and our GBH Morning Edition team. We stayed up late watching the RNC so you didn’t have to, and we’ll bring you the highlights and some of the more dubious claims made by the participants. Today’s end of summer weather promises to be epic, so get outside somewhere and enjoy it… our suggestions include a hiking trail or arboretum. Thanks for waking up with us, and thanks as always for turning to WGBH News.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday August 25th, 2020

    25/08/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Tuesday morning from Joe Mathieu and the GBH Morning Edition team. Tuesday has arrived and we’re up early with you to recap night one of the Republican National Convention. The consensus: a lot of high energy, and a lot of yelling, with some revisionist history mixed in for good measure. There’s a new candidate for congress in MA, and the Morning Edition listeners might just remember him… yes, our old friend from the NH primaries “Vermin Supreme” has thrown his hat in the ring. We thank you for waking up and joining us and wish a Happy Tuesday to you and yours.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Monday August 24th, 2020

    24/08/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Monday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Joe makes his triumphant return to the GBH airwaves after a much deserved week on vacation. Re-entry to work life is never easy, but Joe manages to dust off the cobwebs and jump right back in to it. We have breaking news from Brendan, who went camping and had the whole weekend come crashing down thanks to a curious and hungry visitor. Clearly this visitor was smarter than the average bear. Thanks for joining us on a Monday morning, and have a great week ahead.
