Henry and the team recap the weekend, where apple picking is apparently the hot thing to do in a Covid-19 world. Orchards are seeing unprecedented interest this fall as families look for safe ways to pass the time and keep the kids socially distanced. A frigid morning out there today, which reminds us autumn is in air even though it is technically still summer. That famous autumn wind will blow in for the weekend, with sub-60 degree temperatures expected for much of the area… just a little slice of what’s to come in the next few weeks. One Morning Edition member has acquired a pumpkin carving kit in anticipation of this, but alas, no pumpkin in house yet. Tough night for the Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals, and some fireworks in the locker room after the game. A lot of schools are back in full swing, and with remote learning in place for most parents, the challenges from last Spring are back in full force. This morning GBH News debuted a poll on the 2021 mayoral race in Boston. And President Trump did it again, this time contradicting his own head of the CDC on multiple Covid-19 issues hours after Robert Redfield gave testimony to the Senate. There are a lot of challenges with waking up before 3AM each weekday morning, and we document some of them today. Looks like outdoor dining may continue until December in this area, but you might want to grab your favorite sweater or fleece. Another early morning during a pandemic, another day of remote broadcasts via zoom - but we can’t help but notice the crisp chill in the air this morning… yes autumn is arriving and winter isn’t far behind it. President Trump sat down with California lawmakers yesterday to address the rampant wildfires out west, but all we were left with was yet another Trump soundbite. Big weekend around these parts including the return of football and some spectacular weather. Our head writer Brendan set out to climb Mount Washington and we’re happy to report that he did so successfully, even if he is suffering with sore muscles as a result. Good Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and GBH Morning Edition team. Rejoice, the weekend has finally arrived and we made it there together. Its the 19th anniversary of 9/11, so we spent a little time remembering and honoring. Both Presidential candidates will visit Shanksville, Pennsylvania today to commemorate the heroes from flight 93. In other news one Morning Edition team member has lofty hiking goals for the weekend, but at least the weather looks great for him. Plus that leads Joe to recall something from his Broadcasting Bucket List that will probably never happen. Have a great weekend, stay safe, and thanks for waking up with GBH.

Good Thursday Morning, or as we like to call it around here, “Little Friday”. We’re waking up with a cloudy day in Boston but the GBH Morning Edition team is here to brighten your day. President Trump apparently had time to sit for eighteen interviews with Bob Woodward in the past six months, and now his denials and re-directions have commenced, but this time its all on tape. Meanwhile Covid is still raging and much of Northern California is bathed in an eerie red glow from rampant wildfires. Good Wednesday morning from GBH Radio’s Morning Edition team. Joe Mathieu and the AM crew are greeting you this Wednesday morning with news and more on what we like to call “The Best 10”. The transition from “WGBH” to just “GBH” hasn’t been an easy one, but we hope we’re finally getting the hang of it - although we wonder where exactly that W went. In Covid news one lab in Boston that processes tests may have been churning out false positives. And Mayor Walsh had a good back-and-forth with a local reporter that left us with a sweet sound drop to use in the future. Thanks as always for waking up with GBH radio.

Its the day after labor day, for kids everywhere its the unofficial end of summer and that means the rules change… bedtimes are rolled back and of course homework is mandatory before play can occur. It appears the Wu Train is coming for Marty Walsh and the Mayor’s Office… get ready for more than a year of spirited campaigning. Boston is losing yet another nightlife institution in The Pour House, but Brendan is less than concerned about the loss of some of these Boston bars. Consensus seems to be that college students won’t have much left to do once in-person classes fully resume.
