This morning we do not have an answer on who will lead our country for the next four years, with many races in key swing states still too close to call. That of course didn’t stop President Trump from declaring victory and casting doubt on the millions of legal votes that have yet to be counted. We’re at the mid-week point, and with Halloween cancelled in many communities across the Commonwealth, some schools are allowing their students to have a little fun and dress up for their online learning. Meanwhile the next major holiday on the schedule is very much in flux because of Covid-19. Governor Baker is urging residents to limit Thanksgiving celebrations to people within their household and avoid extended family and friends. The newest appointee to the Supreme Court was approved, sworn in and introduced all in one whirlwind day. And could a hard freeze potential snowfall be in the forecast for Friday? President Obama took to a stage in Philadelphia and didn’t leave the gloves on when it came to criticizing President Trump. Early sunsets and late sunrises have made our daytime hours feel rather brief lately, but at least its slightly easier for morning shift vampires like ourselves to get some sleep. We’re two weeks out from election day, and while many voters take advantage of early voting, President Trump hasn’t altered his course at all… his latest targets include Dr. Anthony Fauci, and NBC debate moderator Kristen Welker. As expected the tone and substance of each event were radically different. So with one debate left the question now is are the polls correct, or are we in for a close and possibly disputed election? Meanwhile one member of Morning Edition is feeling daring this morning and trying out a new ghost pepper donut from a noted local vendor… we find out how she deals with the heat, or lack thereof. It is indeed a holiday in this country: still Columbus Day for some, but also Indigenous People’s day to many, a debate that is likely to continue for some time. Joe is back in the anchor chair after a long weekend, but Karen is the lucky team member who got the holiday off today. We catch you up on the latest news from the weekend including a mixed bag for Boston sports fans, and the postponement of the Patriots game due to Covid concerns. Joe and Karen are off today after a long week which included a special broadcast following the Massachusetts Senatorial Debate on Monday night, so the great Henry Santoro has agreed to forego sleep and join us this morning. The Patriots game has once again been delayed to Monday night after another prominent player tested positive for Covid-19. Henry is amazed at the impact and earning potential of “Tik-Tokkers” and other influencers, some as young as four years old.
