When Scott hears a prominent leader and “early retiree” in the FIRE movement subculture interviewed on a podcast, he enlists his wife to abandon everything they’ve been taught about the role of money in adulthood and instead focus on pursuing financial independence. But doing so requires an about face since their current path has them spending every dime they make living the “Instagram” life in an expensive San Diego suburb, driving luxury cars, and eating at fancy restaurants. Simplicity - No jargon. No tricks. Just straight talk. Not to mention an intuitive digital experience and real people answering the phones at the customer call center. The team at Marcus listened to more than 100,000 people and their experiences with money. Whether your goals are short-term or long-term, they likely have a product that will help you make the most o

Year-End Money Moves for 2019
05/12/2019 Duración: 27minDecember is upon us, which means I basically have your attention for about two more weeks max. So while I have you, and as the year comes to an end, it's a perfect time to review some year-end financial planning tips. For such an occasion there's no better person than Michael Goodman from Wealthstream Advisors. And in the interest of full disclosure, not only is Michael a dear friend of mine, he's also my advisor. We discussed a variety of financial planning topics to ponder before you shut down for the holidays, including: Selling assets in your portfolio now versus waiting until next year: Losses offset gains that you have taken previously in the year; if you have more losses than gains, you can deduct up to $3,000 of losses against ordinary income. Take Required Minimum Distributions: Generally, once you turn 70 1/2, you must begin withdrawing a specific amount of money from your retirement assets (there are some exceptions). The penalty for not taking your RMD is steep at 50 percent on the shortfall! Co

How Money Became Dangerous
21/11/2019 Duración: 32minIn the not too distant past, money was simple. You might have had a bank account and a mortgage, perhaps some basic investments. Wall Street didn’t have a reputation for greed and recklessness. That all started to change in the eighties, as our financial systems became increasingly complex, moving beyond the understanding of the general public while impacting our lives in innumerable ways. Our latest guest, Chris Varelas, is an industry veteran who’s had first hand involvement in the events that shaped modern money, and in his recently released book, How Money Became Dangerous, Varelas and co-author Dan Stone journey from the crime-ridden LA jewelry district to the cutthroat Salomon Brothers trading floor, capturing the key deals, developments, and players that made the financial world what it is today. The book illuminates the dark, hidden forces of Wall Street and how it has dehumanized and left behind everyday Americans. A fresh and enlightening take on how we reached this point, How Money Became Danger
