We’ve got the most important message in history to communicate. We can’t become married to our methods by either getting stuck in the past or by compromising the message by focusing too much on being trendy. So how do you find the balance?

Have you ever spent time in seemingly unending meetings, where the collaboration among departments or team members felt limited to the opinion of the heavy hitters and usually proved little long term value, but much short term frustration? In the book The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth, John Maxwell writes leaders must “stop reacting to their past and start reacting to their future”. In other words; focus on the outcome of your intended growth rather than the outcome of your historical past. Don't allow “how long is this going to take?”, overshadow “how far can I go?”. 

As heroic as our vision casting is and despite our best intentions, life happens.  "Right now" emergencies override visionary priorities. Distractions demand our attention, pull us away from creative thinking and bury us in the whirlwind of daily responsibilities. So as a leader, how do we deal with "right now" emergencies while leading our team into the future?

Leadership resilience is the ability to bounce back from a difficult situation whereas leadership capacity speaks to the ability or simply, the level of competency of a leader. Tenacity is about a leaders persistence and determination. 

When a church hits ground zero, through moral failure, neglect of appropriate leadership or the absence of vision, the damage done so destructive, that recovery seems insurmountable. Recovery is not automatic nor guaranteed.  Everything is on the line and it is a complicated endeavour.
