I really can talk for a while... Might be a loon, but I thought I'd share some thoughts about last year and some of the plans I have for the next. I tell a couple stories, talk about some of the lessons I learned this year, and some of the good decisions I made.  I failed my New Year's Resolution for 2017, didn't climb the ridge I wanted to. European truffles are famous for being expensive and adding a unique flavor to dishes. These truffles can go for $800/lb or more, mostly because of their difficulty being cultivated. But it turns out, Oregon has it's own truffles! Western Oregon, particularly the small area I live in is prime truffle territory. Oregon black and white truffles have become more popular in the recent years, they're very similar to the European truffles and have the same culinary uses. There's plenty of well-deserved controversy over the origins of the American holiday of Thanksgiving, but I try to look past that to find a deeper appreciation for this holiday. I put together a quick audio presentation on foraging wild mushrooms. This totally isn't a complete presentation, don't expect to know everything about mushrooms. I'm just yakkin on this episode. I hit hard man, what really matters here? Some people have a mission and a purpose already, and not everybody has to tear down everything they believe with skepticism or low self-esteem. But if you are tearing it down, I think an answer is there.  Doing certain things feel good. Doing other things make you feel bad. The consequences aren't always immediate, it may feel good to steal a candy bar, but it sucks to get caught. And the system of consequences can be pretty complicated, but if you try to learn it, you'll get better at getting the results you desire. Wow, stoicism again? It's useful shit guys, I promise.  Today Scott Hebert of the Stoic Mettle Podcast joins me to talk about stoicism. I've been a fan of Scott for a while, following him and his farm on social media and interacting every once in a while. When he started up Stoic Mettle, I was more than excited, I was stoked. Stoic Mettle is the only stoic themed podcast, and it's a great one.  I probably mention stoicism once every episode, I talk about it a lot. For a reason. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how I'm going to try to live this life I have. I'm feeling like I'm not doing it right yet, so I'm considering some things that I could do to change my strategy up. Right now, I'm thinking mostly about where my areas of focus are and if I can improve my focus on making money and farming somehow. I'm no luddite, and I don't really think you should get rid of your access to the internet or the cool screened-machines like computers and smartphones. These things are fantastic and have been part of a huge technology boom that has made living as human being much easier and much more fun than it ever has been. But I have some concerns and issues with these devices and this technology.  I wonder how well humans(and our environments) can adapt to our production of new technology. Today I listened to episode 958 of the Joe Rogan Experience with Jordan Peterson, probably my favorite from JRE so far. I found a lot of great information in this show and I found it very valuable, so much that I plan on relistening to the 3 hours a few more times.  They talked a lot about purpose in life, what living this life as a human being is really about. A subject I study and think about a lot.
