    13/08/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Thursday morning from Joe Mathieu and our WGBH Morning Edition squad. We got the plane off the ground in a much smoother fashion this morning, thanks for bearing with us yesterday. School re-openings are on all of our minds and parents everywhere agree that the lack clear answers is tough to deal with on the home front. We check in on the President’s latest ramblings concerning schools and athletics, and even manage to decipher some of the people he mentioned by first name only. And the Biden campaign introduced Kamala Harris yesterday to a crowd of… zero. Thanks for waking up with us, have a great Thursday and thanks as always for tuning in to WGBH.

We delve into a couple of Trump-friendly interviews with the President that left us confused on a couple of key issues. And we’ll have morning playoff hockey in Boston today, the Bruins instead had pizza last night… Joe will explain further. Thanks for waking up with WGBH’s Morning Edition.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday August 11, 2020

    11/08/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Tuesday morning from WGBH Radio’s Morning Edition team. Tuesday has arrived and Joe Mathieu and the team are here to greet it with you. It’s going to be yet another hot one out there today, as air conditioning window units struggle to keep up with the heat. The Mayflower (II) has returned to Plymouth Harbor after a major restorative overhaul, but the fact that it traveled via tugboat power has us slightly amused. Tough times for the restaurant business continue as the state may further crack down on gathering size. This prompted us to think about what it’d be like to stand in a crowd again, and whether we’ll ever return to it moving forward. Have a great Tuesday, and thanks for waking up with WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition- Monday August 10, 2020

    10/08/2020 Duración: 12min

Welcome to Monday and the start of your work week from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. We hope your weekend was a good one and that the week ahead looks promising. Our shark report has been slow this season, but we had a few more incidents in the area that made us ramp it up again on a Monday morning. Early Edition is for families, so we thank our listener Paul out there for introducing us to his daughter this morning on the way to see the sun rise. We’ll catch you up on the latest from the weekend and look to what’s ahead. Thanks for waking up with us on WGBH Radio.

Friday brings more cases, more concerns and more schools changing plans as parents and children try to find the best options for the fall. UMASS Amherst is now telling students who are online only that they can not move in on campus- just 17 days before move in day. Let’s get into the weekend together.

  • WGBH Early Edition -Thursday August 6, 2020

    06/08/2020 Duración: 12min

It’s Little Friday and it looks like people are buying personalized jewelry and masks because Etsy is making a lot of money and showing up on top. Needlepoint, anyone? Boston Public School Committee meets and the discussion of what the school year will look like leaves a lot up in the air. The takeaway- there is no one size fits all. A happy and healthy Early Edition team creeps closer to the weekend, join us!

Over 150,000 people wake up without power or air conditioning after Tropical Storm Isiasis moves quickly through Massachusetts. • WGBH Early Edition - Friday, July 31st, 2020

    31/07/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Radio Morning Edition team. We’ve all made it to the threshold of the weekend, and not a second too soon. It feels like this week has been particularly long, but then again every week under Covid-19 feels like it drags. Joe is utilizing new technology to broadcast to zoom with this morning, and we sure hope you noticed the difference. The President once again stepped in it when he floated the idea of delaying the election, something that didn’t sit well even with some of his supporters. Enjoy your weekends and thanks for waking up with us and tuning in to WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, July 30th, 2020

    30/07/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Thursday morning from WGBH Radio’s Morning Edition team. Joe Mathieu has settled in to the big broadcast chair and is raring to go as we wind down the week… Joe is ready to help you start your day with “the best 10”. We recap the latest Covid news, including a diagnosis for a prominent Republican Senator. Some of the soundbites surrounding it will make you shake your head in disbelief. Stay cool, stay safe, have a great Thursday and thanks for waking up with WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, July 29th, 2020

    29/07/2020 Duración: 14min

Welcome to Wednesday, thanks for joining us on WGBH Radio. Joe Mathieu and the crew are cooking up the news copy and getting you ready for the day with the best 10 minutes in morning radio. The weather broke to a degree, but it still feels warm out there… and the predictions of hail, rain and thunderstorms never really materialized for yesterday. Even though unemployment is up around the country, one occupation that is on a quarantine-induced high demand is pizza shop employees, especially delivery people. Can we get a pizza delivered before 6AM? The President endorsed some questionable science (again) and the Red Sox pitching continues to be god awful. Thanks as always for waking up with us on WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, July 28th, 2020

    28/07/2020 Duración: 14min

Welcome to Tuesday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition crew. Day three of the heat wave has arrived, and its rare, but the mercury is above 80 degrees in Boston before 5AM… should be another scorcher out there. The Red Sox are four games in to their Covid-shortened season, and their lack of pitching indicates this could be a long short season. But for Major League Baseball the problems are bigger, as over a dozen members of one team very recently tested positive. Meanwhile there have been mysterious seeds showing up in the mail according to the FBI, and we poll our group on who among us would actually plant them. Make it a great Tuesday, stay safe and stay cool out there, and thanks for waking up with WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Monday, July 27th, 2020

    27/07/2020 Duración: 14min

Good Monday morning from WGBH Radio. Joe Mathieu and the Morning Edition crew have punched in and are ready to bring you the news of the morning. Hot is the word of the day as a heat wave, although not official yet, is well under way. A less than great opening weekend for your Boston Red Sox, who started out fine on Friday, but got trounced the rest of the way by one of the worst teams in baseball. Meanwhile one of our Morning Edition team members was out and safely socially-distancing to watch the Sox’ opener and apparently ended up in the paper of record because of it. Stay safe and stay cool out there and thanks for waking up with WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Friday, July 24th, 2020

    24/07/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Radio Morning Edition team. The threshold of the weekend has arrived and that still feels great even though most of us don’t have the chance to leave our homes. Joe listened in to an NPR interview with Dr. Fauci, in which he says he personally wouldn’t get on an airplane or eat inside a restaurant during this pandemic, and that has many of us re-thinking whether we’d take those risks ourselves. Baseball is back as well, even if it is without fans. Going to be great weather around these parts this weekend, stay safe and enjoy it, and thank you for tuning in to WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, July 23rd, 2020

    23/07/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Thursday morning from Joe Mathieu and our entire WGBH Morning Edition team. Pay close attention because Joe has five words for you that you will need to repeat at the end of today’s podcast… this WILL be on the test. We’ll wake you up with the news of the day including a bizarre brag by the President, and the pea soup that is today’s forecast. Plus there may soon be an exodus from cities and metropolitan areas, and Joe is wondering if some of our writing staff is ready to leave it all behind and move out to the boondocks. Have a great day, and thanks as always for waking up with Morning Edition and WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, July 22nd, 2020

    22/07/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Wednesday morning from WGBH Radio’s Morning Edition team. Joe Mathieu and the crew are “up and at ‘em” for Early Edition and ready to help you start your day off right. Another failure of a morning as we tried to locate the comet before it disappears from view for thousands of years… and it sure looks like tonight’s incoming clouds will make tomorrow morning a bust as well. The Trump administration tried out a new tone at yesterday’s press conference... we’ll see how long this change lasts. And retail employees at some locations are getting relief from trying to enforce mandatory mask use in unruly customers. Stay safe out there and have a great Wednesday, and thanks for tuning in to WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, July 21st, 2020

    21/07/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Tuesday Morning from Joe Mathieu and our WGBH Morning Edition team. We’re up early again to greet you on the radio and on facebook live, from locations throughout New England. We’ve been trying to get a glimpse of this fabled comet each morning before we go live, but light pollution is not helping. Covid-19 numbers for Massachusetts are still holding up well, but that’s not the case in much of the rest of the country. The President believes the solution might be to hold more press conferences, because those of course worked out so well for his polling numbers the last time he tried that. This is no time to relax, stay diligent and stay safe out there, and thanks once again for waking up with WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Monday, July 20th, 2020

    20/07/2020 Duración: 13min

Good Monday morning from WGBH Radio, hope you’re staying cool out there. Joe Mathieu and our Morning Edition team are up and getting ready for a good old fashioned Boston “Steamah” today as temperatures are expected to approach or touch 100 degrees… we hope you can find some air conditioning to hide out and cool down in. We’ll catch you up on the latest, including a Fox News interview of Donald Trump that didn’t exactly take the same tone that the President is used to on that particular outlet. Do what you can to stay cool out there and thanks for waking up with us on WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Friday, July 17th, 2020

    17/07/2020 Duración: 13min

Good morning… you made it to Friday and we’re here to greet you on WGBH’s Early Edition. Joe Mathieu and our Morning Edition crew are raring to go with the news and ready to help get your weekend started. We have the latest on pandemic and the push to open schools, science be damned. Plus we’ll get you ready for the weekend and even manage to sprinkle in some solid 1980’s nostalgia. Thanks for waking up with WGBH Radio, stay safe, stay cool, and have a great weekend.
