The lynchpin for accepting what the bible teaches about God’s sovereignty boils down to believing that God’s sovereignty is compatible with man’s responsibility. This is the twin doctrines we have been holding. That God is completely sovereign, meaning that not a leaf blows across the ground without God willing or ordaining it. And yet, man, though never outside of the will of God, is and will be held accountable to all of his actions.

In regards to those God chooses, salvation isn’t about God’s fairness; it’s about His mercy. In Romans 9:17-18, he says, in regards to those He doesn’t choose, it’s not about God’s fairness; it’s about His purpose. God is God and everything He does has a purpose. Just because you don’t know what that purpose is doesn’t mean it’s not fair or just.

You can’t earn salvation. It’s all grace. Election is the only way salvation is 100% grace which means it’s the only way that God get’s 100% glory.

We should be intentionally sharing the gospel with those in our natural affinity groups. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t cross social, cultural/linguistic barriers to take the gospel to the nations.

What is the definition of “good” from Romans 8:28? “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Good is being sanctified or conformed to the image of Jesus.

How does the Holy Spirit help us in prayer?

People don’t suffer because God’s not good; people suffer because we’re not good. There’s suffering because our world is broken by sin.

If you are believer and possess the Holy Spirit, you will be moved to engage the sin in your life. Once you know who you are, and fortify your spiritual position you will be led onto the front lines against the sin in your life.

The Spirit says forgive but the flesh says get revenge, hold a grudge. The flesh leads to death and misery, but the Spirit leads to life.

Being in Christ doesn’t mean you never sin; it means sin is no longer how you order your life. You don’t walk in sin. You grow in holiness. You grow to love His word, His church, His people, His law. It means God didn’t justify you and declare you not condemned so you could do whatever you want; He justified you to sanctify you. God’s work of justification is inseparable from His work of sanctification. We no longer try to keep the law to be right God, but to be holy like God. The purpose of Jesus' life and death wasn’t just to take us to heaven when we die, but to make us holy on earth now.

As we talked last week, prayer is vital to our spiritual health...problem is, none of us consider ourselves to be pros at prayer. If we’re honest, prayer is sometimes more duty than desire. We know we need to pray but we struggle in desiring to pray because we don’t feel we know how.

Prayer is confusing. Think about it, everybody prays. Something happens and people say, I’ll pray for you or simply respond on social media with prayers. But, do we really think people are really praying or has that just become a better way to say, Dang, hate that for you?
