    Trish chats with Pizzana chef and incredibly joyful Daniele Uditi. He grew up in culinary family : mom was a chef, his aunt was a bread maker, and his grandfather was a pastry chef. He moved to America in 2010, lived in a van in Venice Beach and not quite sure what he would do, although he knew it would involved being in the kitchen. Word spread quickly about his pizzas and his talent, and before he knew it, he was invited over to the house of actor Chris O'Donnell to cook for him and his friends. Those Sunday suppers eventually led to the introduction of his future business partners and Pizzana was born. Daniele talks about the importance of ingredients, paying respect to the food, and his love of making pizza (and carbs).

The Medford Fire Department called back crews on that day and every firefighter working was assigned to help protect people and property. The two talk about the difficult decisions they made about leaving burning buildings behind, and sometimes the desperate calls to get their crews out of harm's way. They talk about what they remember that day, the images of the residents evacuating, the faces of the men fighting this fire, and the moment they felt they were finally gaining ground.

    This week, Trish talks to Eric Shannon, creator and owner of Big Barker, "real beds for big dogs." Eric talks about growing up Lansdale, Pennsylvania, how he was absolutely terrified of dogs, but then how one very special dog changed it all for him. Shannon started in the pet supply business, but increasingly became more interested in beds, mostly because he couldn't find a good one for him. When he started in that field, he says research, talking to customers, and the drive to make the best dog bed possible pushed him to start Big Barker.

She's an Emmy award winning television host, author and restauranteur who moved to New York at the age of 12. She and her family had to escape their life in Istria, where she left her Grandma Rosa and lived in a refugee camp for 2 years. She tells wonderful, idyllic stories of Grandma Rosa and then, living in Astoria, New York, she talks about getting a job as a teenager and working at Walken's Bakery (Christopher Walken's father's bakery). She talks about meeting her husband, finally getting to see Grandma Rosa again after 10 years, opening a restaurant, and how her success took off when they opened a restaurant in Manhattan. Those stories are followed with stories of meeting Julia Child and what she's cooking for dinner tonight. Salud to Lidia!

She found herself moving to Las Vegas with her boyfriend, what she says she hoped would be the beginning of an exciting new life, but instead, turned into a nightmare the first night she was there. She was forced into sex trafficking for nearly 6 years before she managed to escape. She talks about how she recovered, managed to get back on her feet, and is now educating law enforcement and others on the signs and dangers of trafficking.

    He survived Hurricane Katrina and the hurdles and challenges he faced are the reasons he's in his current line of work. Daniel Aldrich is a professor of Political Science, Public Policy and Urban Affairs and the director of Security and Resilience Studies Program at Northeastern University. He's also carried out more than five years of field work in Japan, India, Africa, and the Gulf Coast. He was displaced by Hurricane Katrina, his home flooded and everything he and his family owned was destroyed. It was during the aftermath Aldrich learned a lot of hard lessons. "I thought, who's going to save us. I had this vision in my head the federal government was going to save us," Aldrich explains, "at the end of the day, may be our insurance will pay for all of this damage. Of course, as it is always the case, the government, nor insurance actually helped at all in that process. All the aid we got came from within our network, people that we knew or barely knew."     Tragedy hit close to home for Trish, as she and most of Southern Oregon watched parts of their community go up in flames on August 8, 2020. The devastating Almeda Fire severely burned the towns of Talent and Phoenix and now many are wondering what's next. Trish talks to Jeff Schlegelmilch the director of the National Center of Disaster Preparedness at the Earth Institute at Columbia University about the recent wildfires that are burning or have burned parts of the West Coast, including the devastating Almeda Fire that burned through the Rogue Valley. Jeff talks about the importance of being prepared for a potential disaster, and the NCDP's work in helping communities come up with systems and policies. He also talked about the "what's next." and the overwhelming task that will be for local communities and residents. She and her team oversee the art and editorial content for all Peanuts products around the globe. Paige says while she can draw all the Peanuts characters, the team usually pulls from Charles Schulz's work and modify it. She had the chance to work with him directly before he retired. Before signing on with the Schulz studio, she created a comic strip called "Jane's World," the first gay-themed comic work to receive online distribution by a national media syndicate in the United States. It was also Eisner nominated, which Paige says is kind of like being nominated for an Emmy. A few years ago, she wrote her first lesbian romance novel under a pen name. She says she was loving life at her California university, but everything changed when, at the age of 19, she was sexually assaulted. Despite winning her two university tribunals, her attacker decided to sue her for defamation. Olivia spent the years she should have been enjoying college life and friends, buried in legal fees and court dates. She created Restless, an online magazine as a way to bring women together, provide a resource for those women who needed help, guidance, a sense of empowerment, or just a place to escape and realize they weren't alone. Restless just recently launched an app, giving more access to more women, in an effort to "amplify women's voices and empower through information and connection."
