Pastor Mike continues in the study of 1 Peter beginning Chapter 5. Peter has been addressing the suffering all Christians are called to go through in this life. Not because it's God's pleasure to see that but because it is due to the choice man made to sin and separate themselves from the face-to-face relationship with God. We review briefly three major causes of suffering spoken of throughout the earlier chapters of Peter and all throughout scripture. In chapter 5 Peter now turns the corner to discuss the example of how leaders are to show the world how a Christian undergoes suffering in a way that leads to Jesus as our only true source of hope and peace in the midst of it all. Leaders have a purpose, and that purpose is to lead others to Christ. Happy Mother's Day! Pastor Mike talks in great detail how Moms and Jesus have much in common. Mothers are very special and they are powerful influencers in our life. We will find that mom's and Jesus's roles are very similar as a life giver, nurturer, teacher, protector,comforter and prayer warriors for their children. Pastor Mike continues in 1 Peter talking about the great love God has for His children and how He proves it to us through judgment. Peter emphasizes this in our text today, how judgment begins in the house of God. Is this a way that God shows His love? Think about it this way, God loves us so much He wants everyone to be perfected and completely delivered from the bondage of sin. Suffering and judgment are the ways that God perfects His children. Sounds hard and difficult possibly but when we can grasp that God's intention is to make us the BEST we can be, then we can begin to accept and embrace the justice of his judgments now while we have opportunity to be changed. Continuing in our study of 1 Peter, Pastor Mike discusses some very serious and yet common questions about suffering as Peter addresses his readers. Everyone suffers, though it may appear that some may more than others. Yet the questions are the same, why is suffering required? Without being able to answer specific questions, scripture is clear that suffering for Christ serves a bigger purpose that what may be evident at the time we're enduring it. From our temporary and "in the moment" perspective, we don't get it and we don't like it... But as we can learn to see God's bigger purposes for our life, we might have a better opportunity to see the purpose of at least some of the suffer He allows. Remember, God isn't surprised by the things that we're going thru, and for that we can be very thankful that He's totally aware of everything about our situation. This may not take away the pain in the moment, but hopefully it will help us understand what it means to share in the suffering as Christ suffered so

Pastor Mike takes us back into the study on 1 Peter today focusing on our "true identity" in Jesus. Like Peter, we are made into the living stones cut out of the Rock of Jesus. Jesus declares that He will build His Church such that the gates of Hell will not prevail against it. Do you know that Jesus uses people as the building blocks? People, like Peter, who have a revelation knowledge of who they are in Christ, "living stones" cut out of the same Rock of Jesus. That's great and exciting news for us! Palm Sunday is the day that Jesus was declared to be the King of Israel. Many turned out that day to celebrate the coming of a new king and a new kingdom. It was a loud and rambunctious event in the city of Jerusalem. However, we see that for many of that day there was a disconnect in the agendas of man and God . God's agenda is clearly stated in scripture that He would have all mankind come to receive Jesus as the Savior and Lord of their lives. That's why Jesus was coming into the city that day. The agenda of many if not most of the people however, was for Jesus to set up an earthly kingdom with it's immediate benefits. How does this impact and apply to our lives today? Are we seeing and receiving "God's agenda for mankind" or are we living by our own agenda for God? Listen in to see how we aren't much different today then the people of that day... Pastor Mike continues in the study of 1 Peter, chapter 4. This message takes up where last week's left as we were discussing learning to "love what God loves and hate what God hates". This simple yet profound concept is the key to "living a life that is worth dying for". It's only when we can love and hate as God does that we can live a pleasing and victorious life through the power of the Holy Spirit. Peter gives the challenge to stop living a life of worldliness that one used to enjoy and replace it with a life of righteousness. He warns that your "one time" friends will ridicule you for your life changes, but who are they to fear? They will give their own account to God, a just and righteous judge. Pastor Mike is progressing thru the study of 1 Peter. Today we look at the passion of "Love and Hate" that God has for people and likewise for the sin in people. Why is it important to understand sin? Because it is the thing that separates Man from God. To understand how much God hates sin, we must first appreciate how much God loves man. God created a world of perfection for man to enjoy for all generations and because of the choice man made to sin, this perfect creation and the God - Man relationship was broken. It required Jesus, the Son of God to become a man and suffer and die as He did as payment for sin's choice to re-established the opportunity for man to have relationship with God our Father once again. Pastor Mike continues in the study of 1 Peter with the question: How much of a risk taker are you? We will see in today's message that God loves people and He is very patient with them. At the same time, when God makes the decision to judge, He is very "just" in His judgment. Noah was a man of righteousness and he trusted God enough to build a huge ark that would save many if they would have chosen to believe, but history says "only a few" were saved. The old saying is "history repeats itself" and that's exactly what scripture says that before the end comes and the rapture occurs, it will be as in the days of Noah, and the same thing will happen - only "a few" will be saved. Not because God couldn't save more, but because the people will be just like the people of Noah's day and they rejected the message of the coming salvation and thus the risk they took cost them their eternal life. Pastor Mike continues in the study of the book of 1 Peter focusing on what it means to live a consistent lifestyle before the world in humbleness and brokenness so that Jesus is glorified. Peter gives us the instruction that we are to be ready to give an answer to why we're different. The question is, are we consistent in our daily lives so that we really are different from the world so that they see it? In reality, if we're not living in such lifestyle so that the world see's it as different, then neither does Jesus, and that's not a good thing --- eternally speaking... Today is the day to start a new life of being called to be consistent...

Pastor Mike remains in the study on 1 Peter and we discuss what it means to "Love people in Spite of..." all the things they are doing that seem so unlovable. We are all commanded according to Peter to love people as Christ loved and still loves us. It's only as we are willing and able to submit our hearts to Christ can we love as Christ loves. In the same fashion that we are to love as God loves we are also to hate as God hates... Does that sound strange to hear that God hates? What does He hate? God hates evil, of all kinds and we as true followers and lovers of God need to learn to hate evil as He does and then love people in the same way in spite of... Pastor Mike picks up on the study of 1 Peter again and continuing in the area of submission. We find that submission is the central theme of the bible and is THE key to our salvation. A rebellious person by definition cannot be considered to be a true follower of Christ as Christ was our example by being fully submitted to following the will of His Father. It's a challenge beyond all challenges, but anything of excellence would be. God wants and intends for us to live in a state that is above the natural situations and circumstances of this world. As true followers of Christ, we have a heritage and the authority to live above the natural and into the supernatural if we would just begin to live in it. Like everything God gives to us, He gives as we are diligent seekers and persistent followers of Jesus and everything He teaches.
